The Department of Pediatrics at McMaster University and St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton are seeking full-time academic pediatricians or neonatologists at the Assistant or Associate Professor level to join the Division of General Pediatrics at our Academic Community Pediatrics Site.
About the Opportunity
This position is based at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton (SJHH), a key partner in our city-wide Department of Pediatrics and an affiliate of McMaster University. As part of a collaborative, multi- disciplinary team, our academic community pediatricians work closely with pediatric sub-specialists, surgical sub-specialists, community physicians, and allied health professionals to provide comprehensive, family-centred care for children from birth to 17 years of age. Our team manages a broad range of acute pediatric conditions, complex medical needs, and neonatal care.

With a major provincial investment, the SJHH Special Care Nursery is expanding to a 21-bed Level II+ nursery, significantly enhancing access to specialized neonatal care for the newborns and families we serve across southwestern Ontario, including Hamilton, Brant, Niagara, Haldimand, and Halton. Role Responsibilities & Requirements:
This position will incorporate an academic appointment, and salary will be commensurate with the experience and expertise of the applicant. Successful candidates will attend high-risk deliveries, operate a Level II+ nursery, provide consultative inpatient newborn care as well as ambulatory neonatal and pediatric care through on-site clinics. As a member of our academic faculty, successful candidates will participate in providing education to various levels of medical trainees and educational initiatives designed for postgraduate medical trainees and faculty. As an academic division, members are actively involved in educational innovation, research, quality improvement and patient safety.
The ideal candidate will have the following requirements:
- Applicants will demonstrate a strong academic record in areas of either education, research, quality improvement and patient safety, or advocacy.
- Demonstrated interest and engagement in initiatives to support equity, diversity, and inclusion will be considered an asset.
- Applicants should be certified (or eligible for certification) by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Pediatrics and must be licensed (or eligible for licensure) in the Province of Ontario.
- Candidates with two or more years of experience as a neonatologist or general pediatrician will be considered an asset; however, this is not a requirement for the position.
