The Integrated Technology Management Unit is an integral part of Toronto Water that provides long term technology planning while maintaining consistent high quality IT standards across our division. The unit, as part of the Customer & Technical Support section, provides full IT related customer services from acquisition and project implementation to maintenance of information and industrial technologies. ITM is also responsible for the operation and administration of IT infrastructure, computer security and data centres for Toronto Water.
Reporting to the Senior Systems Infrastructure Specialist of the Infrastructure Services Team, the Application & Technology Support Specialist 3 provides services and addresses opportunities and challenges related to Application, Desktop, Network, Security & Access Management, and Server Support.
Major Responsibilities:
- Schedules workload and sets priorities
- Installs and maintains various hardware/software/systems
- Provides expertise in assessment, analysis, evaluation of alternatives and resolution of issues & problems in assigned areas
- Co-ordinates with internal & external groups on resolution of problems
- Participates in team projects and makes recommendations to enhance the quality and efficiency of support Provides input for the development and improvement of the current environment, policies & processes
- Lifecycle management of hardware and software technology assets including planning, acquisition, deployment, maintenance, decommissioning and disposal
- Configures network and server-related hardware and software
- Monitors and maintains access and security of data and infrastructure
- Advises desktop configuration management teams on hardware & software technologies and deployment alternatives
- Advises network management teams on hardware & software technologies, connectivity and backup & recovery alternatives
- Advises security management & control teams on innovation of processes and technology through research and evaluation of emerging trends
- Prepares technical documentation and training material relating to desktop software, web applications, hardware, mobile wireless devices, network connections, printers and multi-function devices
- Prepares statistics and drafts summary reports
- Supports the centralized management of access control Travels to off-site locations
Key Qualifications:
Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:
- Post-secondary education in computer science or related discipline, or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Experience with configuring desktop software and the ability to apply configuring skillsets across various operating systems
- Experience in preparing technical documentation (i.e. knowledge based material) and assisting in developing procedural training material.
- Demonstrated knowledge of diagnosing, troubleshooting and resolving issues in relations with web applications, hardware, mobile wireless devices, network connections, printers and multi-function devices.
You must also have:
- Knowledge in, or understanding of technologies, concepts and architecture
- Ability to lift/move equipment/boxes up to 40lbs
- Ability to work under time constraints and meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently or cooperatively within a team Ability to work on several projects simultaneously
- Good analytical and organizational skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Detail oriented with demonstrated problem solving abilities
- Ability to make judgements about the application of technology to business needs and resolve end-user problems in a client/server and web-based environment
- A valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle for work is an asset
