Job Purpose
As an OHS, Disability, and Accessibility Specialist, you will ensure a safe, healthy, and compliant work environment for employees by identifying, assessing, and mitigating workplace hazards and risks. You will develop and implement workplace safety programs and practices that promote a healthy and safe workplace aligned to regulatory requirements. You will support end-to-end disability case management, working closely with managers, employees and insurance providers. Your work to remove accessibility barriers and implement best practices around accessibility and accommodations and will foster an environment where all employees can thrive.
Accountabilities
- Develop, implement and uphold workplace OHS policies and practices to meet federal and provincial regulatory requirements and recommend actions to improve the health and safety of our workplace.
- Coordinate with workplace committees and cross-functional teams to embed OHS standards into everyday workflows to ensure a safer working environment for all.
- Conduct thorough analysis of workplace and job hazards, and assess potential risks linked to specific job tasks and workplace locations. Establish and implement measures to mitigate identified risks.
- Maintain accessibility and accommodation standards on behalf of Human Resources, ensuring our practices meet or exceed established accessibility action plans and commitments.
- Provide guidance to managers and HR peers in assessing and determining appropriate accommodations solutions for individual requests. Coordinate with external partners and health care professionals as required to find suitable solutions for employees to thrive.
- Assess and manage disability claims and leave requests in collaboration with HR Business Partners, managers, and insurance providers to support employees on disability. Develop optimized return-to-work plans that balance employee and operational needs, ensuring clear communication among all parties.
- Conduct risk assessments to identify trends and implement corrective actions across OHS, disability and accessibility programs. Advise management on mitigation strategies and keep risk management plans current with changing workplace needs and legislation.
- Guide and coach leaders and employees in disability management, accommodation and accessibility best practices.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field
- Disability Management or Accessibility Certification, or equivalent
- 3-5 years managing workplace safety programs, disability claim management, or accessibility program development
- Proficiency in developing customized return-to-work programs
- Knowledge of procuring and implementing accessible technology and equipment
- Knowledge with training staff on OHS and accessibility best practices
- Experience in crafting and updating OHS policies with inclusion considerations
- History of effectively managing and resolving complex disability cases
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective ergonomic and accessibility solutions
- Expertise in federal and provincial OHS, Accessibility and WorkSafe standards
