As a Tobacco Cessation Specialist, you will be an integral part of a collaborative team focused on delivering seamless services and programs to our clients and customers. The Tobacco Cessation Specialist will provide assessment, consultation, and education to patients in the facility.  You will collaborate with staff to educate, facilitate, and assist in the maintenance of a standard of care for Tobacco-addicted patients using established best practices and applying relevant legislation. 

What you’ll be doing:

• Work with senior management to promote the Tobacco Cessation Program for the Homewood Health Centre
• Participate and maintain Tobacco-Cessation programs on all units
• Contribute to the coordination of the Tobacco-Free Policy implementation, training and communication
• Facilitate Tobacco cessation policy and program development
• Create and sustain a supportive patient-focused environment for the change of addictive behaviour
• Assist with the implementation of various effective strategies to assist patients with quitting tobacco
• Support clinical areas to develop education, training and consultations related to patient tobacco cessation needs
• Coordinate training sessions and guest speakers for staff on tobacco-related topics
• Demonstrate clinical leadership by establishing treatment goals and working with the patient/client and other team members to develop action steps to meet these goals

What we’re looking for:

• Bachelor’s in Social Work, Counselling, or Nursing
• Specific training in tobacco cessation preferred; Mental Health certificate would be an asset
• Group Facilitation experience as well as working knowledge of DBT & CBT
• Exceptional assessment and documentation skills
• Knowledge of addictions along a continuum of care
• Full understanding of the Mental Health Act
• Familiarity of community mental health resources
• Proven excellence in communication, problem-solving, conflict resolution and organizational skills
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a part of an innovative interdisciplinary team
• CPR/Basic rescuer
• Ability to prioritize and function effectively in a demanding and challenging environment
• Highly skilled in assessment and prevention of suicide and management of aggressive behaviour through non-violent crisis intervention techniques
• Current knowledge and experience specific to emergency mental health and crisis intervention
• Proven ability to assume leadership
