ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
This role reports to the Student Health Promotion Coordinator.
SUMMARY
The Peer Wellness Leader assists the Student Health Promotion Coordinator in the development, administration, training and facilitation of the KPU Peer Wellness Program. The Peer Wellness Leader will be required to work up to 15 hours per week with a flexible schedule. Occasional travel will be required between campuses.
The KPU Peer Wellness Program has three main objectives:
- Offer social support & mentorship to KPU students from KPU students;
- Provide KPU students with health & wellness resource navigation on-campus;
- Advocate for enhanced student health and wellbeing at KPU;
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist the Student Health Promotion team with facilitating the Peer Wellness Program. This includes facilitating peer-led activities and workshops, hosting peer-led events for students on campus, and helping to develop resources such as the Peer Wellness newsletter.
- Assist with the recruitment and training of Peer Wellness Volunteers.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to Peer Wellness Volunteers. Lead check-in meetings with Peer Wellness Team.
- Utilize social media platforms to promote programs and engage with the KPU student body.
- Provide mentorship and social support to KPU students by being knowledge in the services and resources offered by KPU to support health and well-being, referring students where appropriate.
- Promote the program and positively represent the Peer Wellness Team during outreach, advocacy opportunities, and campus-wide events.
- Promote positive health and well-being among the KPU student community.
- Attend & participate in check-in meetings, training sessions and ongoing professional development opportunities as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- At least one (1) year at a post-secondary institution and at least two (2) semesters at KPU. Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.76.
- An interest in promoting health & well-being and knowledge of health & well-being resources at KPU.
- Strong organizational, communication & interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
- Able to facilitate group conversations and comfortable public speaking/giving presentations.
- Ability to understand and maintain confidentiality, privacy and boundaries.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel).
- Experience with social media platforms (Instagram, Buffer).
- Creative problem solving & critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work as a team and individually.
*Salary Information
Student Assistants are paid as per the following:
- Less than one year of post-secondary (less than 30 credits) – BC Minimum Wage
- One year of post-secondary (30-60 credits) – BC Minimum Wage plus 8%
- With a post-secondary diploma or degree – BC Minimum Wage plus 21%
