Your Opportunity
Stantec has opportunities for a Senior Environmental Assessment and Permitting Practitioner to help lead our environmental assessment and permitting projects. Working with our biological, physical sciences, human environment, and engineering teams, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading and contributing to environmental assessments and permitting activities for a variety of projects across different sectors, including ports and marine, transportation and infrastructure, oil and gas, mining, and/or power sectors.
This role can be located in Burnaby, Kelowna, Sidney, Whitehorse or Terrace, BC.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Managing environmental assessments and permit applications with multidisciplinary project teams
- Promoting a strong health and safety culture and actively participating in Stantec’s Health, Safety, Security and Environment Program
- Leading assignments, scopes, schedules, budgets and deliverables
- Demonstrating leadership, coordination and mentoring of staff across operating units
- Contributing to proposals (budget development and proposal writing)
- Providing reviews and advice on regulatory and technical sections of applications, regulatory roadmaps and complex multidisciplinary permit applications
- Possessing advanced client management, client communication and business development skills
- Experience in project management of mid to large scale projects
- Implementing project QA/QC procedures (including quality and independent reviews of draft deliverables)
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Technical knowledge and experience with federal and/or provincial assessment and permitting requirements such as Mines Act and/or Environmental Management Act or Fisheries Act permitting
- Practical knowledge of environmental mitigation and best management practices
- Client-focused, positive attitude with demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Indigenous and public engagement experience
- Ability to coordinate technical professionals, including an understanding of requirements and obligations under BC’s Professional Governance Act
- Strong project schedule and financial management skills
- Keen interest in building effective networks, interacting with clients, and fostering long-term relationships that contribute to our business
- Committed to providing quality deliverables in a timely manner
- Ability to work in a team setting, accept responsibility and meet deadlines
Education and Experience
Bachelor or graduate degree in an environmental, physical science, or engineering related discipline.
At least ten (10) years of experience focusing on environmental assessments/permitting projects.
Has obtained or is eligible for a professional designation in British Columbia (e.g., R.P.Bio., P.Eng., P.Geo., P.Ag.).
Experience carrying projects through the BC Environmental Assessment Act, Impact Assessment Act or National Energy Board environmental assessment processes.
Possess a valid Driver’s License.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Potential for a hybrid approach for the office working environment Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):
Salary Range(s):
- Lower Mainland $110,200/BC Other Areas $104,000 - Lower Mainland $165,400/BC Other Areas $156,000 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in BC (Lower Mainland includes Vancouver & Burnaby)
The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
