About the role
We’re looking for an Property Claims Appraiser, Major Loss, to join our growing team!
Territory: Thunder Bay and surrounding Northern Ontario area
This is a remote position but will report to Ottawa home office.
You will be responsible for inspecting large loss sites to produce restoration, repair or replacement cost estimates for buildings with major damage. You will occasionally be responsible for auditing estimates and work performed by the contractors/restorers who are members of an Intact network of partners to ensure compliance with standards and policies, as well as handle complaints regarding the quality of the work, the costs, and the restoration methods.
In this role, you will use your analytical skills to manage the appraisal process for large commercial and personal property losses. You will work directly with customers and vendors to conduct inspections, identify the scope of damages, and create cost estimates for buildings requiring major repairs.
You’re analytical, solution-oriented, adaptable, and empathetic with a desire to help customers. Having financial and vendor management experience is ideal.
What you’ll do here:
- Determine and complete the scope of large losses, and prepare detailed repair estimates of damaged buildings.
- Travel on short notice to the customers’ location.
- Deliver excellent and empathetic customer service.
- Provide technical support to internal and external claims adjusters on the outcome of the estimate.
- Negotiate with vendors to obtain restoration cost agreements.
- Collaborate with vendors to ensure timelines and budgets are met.
- Work with the regular loss team for indefinite periods to support customer claims, when required.
- Share knowledge and offer technical training to improve control methods and processes.
What you bring to the table:
- Five to eight years of experience in post-claim appraisal with at least two to three years in large losses.
- Diploma in building appraisal and/or a relevant combination of education and experience.
- Have a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
- Technical and practical knowledge of restoration of damaged buildings.
- High-level knowledge of the Xactimate estimating software.
- Effective planning and organizational skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and an inclination to find solutions.
- Intent to deliver positive customer experiences.
- Construction experience is preferred.
- Bilingualism in French and English would be an asset for this role.
