SUMMARY:Member Workshop: 2SLGBTQIA+ Inclusive Health Benefits
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, August 24\, 2022\, from 12 PM to 1 PM EDT – this event is exclusive for employees of our Proud Partners and Community Partners. \nHealth benefits play a key role in most employee packages and the quality of the coverage offered can be a key factor in both attracting and retaining talent. However\, it is important to recognize that most benefit plans are not inherently inclusive of 2SLGBTQIA+ employees. Do you know whether your benefits plan is truly inclusive? Does your plan cover drugs related to HIV/AIDS (including PrEP) or coverage for transition-related costs (including gender affirmation surgeries)? Leveraging the expertise of the Pride at Work Canada staff team\, this presentation will unpack some of the barriers that 2SLGBTQIA+ employees experience when accessing health benefits and offer key recommendations for ensuring your benefits plan truly benefits all employees\, regardless of gender identity and/or sexual orientation. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nOverview of several health benefits that are specific to 2SLGBTQIA+ employees\nReview examples of inclusive benefits coverage\nGuidance on how to advocate for the most inclusive benefits plan with your provider\n\nAudience: \n\nDiversity\, Equity & Inclusion Professionals\nHuman Resources Professionals\nPride Employee Resource Group Leaders\nInsurance industry and EAP providers\n\nPresenter:\n[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″] Jade Pichette (they/them)\, Director of Programs\, Pride at Work Canada \nJade Pichette is an inclusion\, diversity\, equity\, and accessibility (IDEA!) professional based in Tkarón:to/Toronto. Currently\, Jade serves as the Director of Programs at Pride at Work Canada\, where they work with over 250 large employers across Canada around gender expression\, gender identity\, and sexual orientation inclusion. SUMMARY:ProPride Braindate ProFierté (bilingual)
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, August 3\, 2022\, from 9 AM to 4 PM EDT (up to your schedule availability) – This online networking event is free and open to all who wish to register.\n[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″]Pride at Work Canada is proud to have the support of Desjardins for ProPride Braindate ProFierté. \n \nThis event is in collaboration with Braindate – e180. \n[/vc_column][/vc_row] \nTired of missing out on webinars because they don’t suit your schedule or don’t accommodate your time zone? Pride at Work Canada’s Braindate networking events provide the opportunity to meet and learn from others through meaningful conversations all on your schedule. \nJoin us on August 3 to connect with D&I professionals from across Canada through the Braindate platform. Representatives from Pride at Work Canada’s Proud Partner and Community Partner network will be coming together to share best practices and learn from one another. If you have some spare time on your lunch break or between meetings at any point from 9 AM to 4 PM EDT\, stop by to say hi and explore this new way of networking with us! \nWhat is a Braindate? \nBraindates are one-on-one or group video chat discussion sessions created by platform users based on what they can teach or what they want to learn. On the Braindate platform\, you will be able to browse a list of topics posted by other users and join the conversations that interest you most and suit your schedule. If you’re seeking advice or have a subject you’re itching to discuss with other members of the Pride at Work Canada community\, you can post your own topic too! \n“How to video (virtual)” from e180 on Vimeo. Here’s what to do: \n\nLog into Braindate to create your profile: details will be sent to the email you register with.\nExplore the Topic Market: participants (and you\, too!) post braindate topics here related to discussions they’d like to have with others during the event. You can invite anyone to meet based on their topic!\nCreate topics: post braindate topics about discussions you’d like to have. This is your opportunity to share your knowledge\, experiences\, and expertise!\nBook your braindates: send invitations to meet others to discuss their topics\, and accept the invitations you receive. Once confirmed\, your braindates will take place virtually right on the platform.\nGet started!\n\nWe’re here to help! About virtual learning concierges\nWould you like advice on how to create a compelling braindate topic? Are you having trouble finding topics that are relevant to you? Do you have questions about how to use the Braindate platform? \nWe can help. At our Braindate networking events\, Virtual Learning Concierges (real humans – no bots here!) will be on call to support you in making the most out of your experience. Don’t hesitate to connect with one of them on button links. \nThey will be available by Tuesday\, August 2. \nHow to host a meaningful braindate?\nBraindates are conversations that stem from a shared interest. \nWhether it’s a one-on-one or group braindate\, keep the following 5 tips in mind to lead a meaningful braindate for everyone involved: \n\nMake sure everyone introduces themselves and contributes to the discussion.\nAsk the participant(s) what interested them about the topic.\nBe transparent and honest about your own experience related to the topic: You don’t need to be an expert to lead a braindate.\nDon’t forget that everyone has something interesting they can add to the conversation: adopt a beginner’s mindset.\nDon’t forget to share contact information. Many great relationships started with a simple conversation.\n\nLimited number of participants. \nThere will be a draw (two tickets) for Montrealers who participate in our ProPride Braindate ProFierté to join our Montreal ProPride (sold out) in that evening.\nPlease register by Monday\, August 1. SUMMARY:National Member Webinar: Trans-Forming through Transformative Justice and Community Building (Cancelled)
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, July 13\, 2022\, from 12 PM to 1 PM EDT – this event is exclusive for employees of our Proud Partners and Community Partners. \nThroughout Pride season\, many employers will strive to honour and celebrate two distinct yet intersecting communities underrepresented in most workplaces – 2SLGBTQIA+ and Indigenous employees. To action allyship and avoid tokenism\, employers must first recognize that Pride is much more than just rainbows\, just as Indigenous History Month is more than land acknowledgements. Before showcasing our support externally\, we must first direct our attention inward to ensure that our inclusion efforts and allyship are intersectional and put into action with explicit commitments and accountability. \nIn this webinar\, Monica Forrester will share her experiences and extensive contributions to trans history\, community work\, activism\, and advocacy within the numerous and overlapping intersections of her identities as a trans woman of colour and a sex worker living in Toronto. Drawing from her leadership with Trans Pride Toronto* and Maggie’s Toronto*\, this session will offer Forrester’s critical insights and perspectives on what work remains for the meaningful inclusion of marginalized\, racialized\, and sex working employees and jobseekers. \n*Trans Pride Toronto is a registered charity founded in 2004 by a collective of Trans and Two-Spirit folks to address and support the needs of marginalized\, racialized\, and sex working community members. Trans Pride Toronto’s vision is that all Trans\, Two-Spirit\, Black\, and Non-Binary identities will be valued\, equal\, and have equitable access to housing\, employment\, human rights\, and services to achieve health and wellbeing. Click here to donate! \n*Maggie’s Toronto Sex Worker’s Action Project is one of Canada’s oldest by and for sex worker support organizations and one of the first sex worker organizations globally to receive government funding. Founded in 1986\, Maggie’s was established on the belief that sex work is real\, legitimate and valuable work. Click here to donate! \nLearning Objectives: \n\nHistory of trans\, Two-Spirit and sex worker advocacy and activism in Toronto\nInsights and perspectives on advocacy\, allyship\, and inclusion efforts specific to trans\, Two-Spirit employees\, jobseekers and sex workers\nGathering lessons learned through community work and activism to apply in the workplace context\n\nAudience: \n\nDiversity\, Equity & Inclusion Professionals\nTalent Acquisition Professionals\nHuman Resources Professionals\n\nPresenter:\n[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″] [/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″] Monica Forrester (she/her)\, 2Spirit Transwoman of colour\, Spirit name: Southern Eagle \n\n35 years actively engaged in Trans/2Spirit community\n25 years working directly within the community bringing awareness\, inclusion and education on the diverse communities that exist in Trans/2Spirit Community\nFounder of Trans Pride Toronto 2004\nThe first Trans/2Spirit contingency to walk in the annual 2SLGBTQ parade 2004\n\n[/vc_column][/vc_row] \n \nThis online event has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances\, and we will try to reschedule it.\n\nRegistration for this event has closed. \nThis event is exclusive for employees of our Proud Partners and Community Partners. SUMMARY:Virtual Panel Discussion: Intersectionality within 2SLGBTQIA+ Communities
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, June 30\, 2022\, from 12 PM to 1 PM EDT – This online event is free and open to all who wish to register.\n[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″]Pride at Work Canada is proud to have the support of Bell for this online event.\n[/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″] [/vc_column][/vc_row]\n[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][/vc_column][/vc_row] \nAlthough referred to under one umbrella\, the experiences of the 2SLGBTQIA+ employees and jobseekers are unique and diverse as our gender expressions\, gender identities and sexual orientations intersect with other aspects of our identities and lives. \nIntersectionality is a term that was first coined by Kimberlé W. Crenshaw to describe the compounding impacts of simultaneous racial and gender prejudice. It has since become a framework for understanding the ways in which aspects of an individual’s social and political identities combine to create different experiences of oppression or privilege. But it is not just about the ways in which experiences of marginalization stack up. Intersectionality recognizes the power structures\, and the interacting and reinforcing relationships between sexism\, racism\, homo/bi/transphobia\, ableism\, colonialism\, classism\, and other axes of oppression. \nThis session presented by Pride At Work Canada and sponsored by BELL will explore the reasons why taking an intersectional approach to advocacy and inclusion is integral to creating a sense of belonging for all\, including but not limited to 2SLGBTQIA+ employees and jobseekers. \nLearning Objectives \n\nIntroduction to the concept of Intersectionality\nExamine intersectionality in a 2SLGBTQIA+ context\nExplore ways in which organizations can use an intersectional framework to inform diversity and inclusion initiatives\n\nAudience \n\nGeneral employee population\nHuman Resources professionals\nPride employee resource group members\nDiversity\, Equity\, & Inclusion Professionals\n\nSPEAKERS\n[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text] \nQUINN BLUE (he/him\, they/them) \nProgramming & Engagement Coordinator \nPride at Work Canada \n[Panelist] \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text] \nPRU GIRME (she/her) \nBusiness Development Coordinator \nPride at Work Canada \n[Panelist] \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row] \nRegistration for this event has closed.\nThis online event is free and open to all who wish to register. This panel discussion\, organized by Pride at Work Canada with the support of Rainbow Faith & Freedom\, will delve into the intersections of gender identity\, gender expression\, sexual orientation\, creed\, and religion at work. Religious and 2SLGBTQIA+ communities are often portrayed as separate communities\, while both experience being told that they are not appropriate in the workplace. It is also common that 2SLGBTQIA+ people of faith are marginalized by both their religious communities and the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. Yet our religious beliefs\, creed\, sexual orientation\, gender identity\, and gender expression are all core parts of who people are and\, to create true workplace belonging\, all have to be respected. Join us for this important discussion that looks at allyship within and between equity-deserving groups. The panel will be followed by a lively networking reception bringing together 2SLGBTQIA+ employees\, job seekers\, and employers committed to belonging at work. \nDetails\nWhen: Thursday\, June 23\, 2022\, from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM EDT\nWhere: Ricarda’s – 134 Peter St\, Toronto\, ON M5V 2H2\nRegistration: 5:30 PM – 6:00 PM\nPanel: 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM\nReception: 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM \nLearning Objectives: \n\nExperiences of 2SLGBTQIA+ employees and job seekers\nBest practices for 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion\nThe intersection of creed\, religion\, gender expression\, gender identity\, and sexual orientation at work.\n\nAudience: \n\n2SLGBTQIA+ professionals and job seekers\nEmployee Resource Group members\nDiversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion professionals\n\nSPEAKERS\n[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text] \nKIM WHEATLEY (she/her) \nAnishinaabe Cultural Consultant \n[Remarks] \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text] \nRev. DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, June 15\, 2022\, from 12 PM to 1:30 PM EDT – This online event is free and open to all who wish to register.\n[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″]Pride at Work Canada is proud to have the support of Social Research and Demonstration Corporation for this Virtual ProPride. \n[/vc_column][/vc_row] \nRainbow logos\, black squares\, orange or pink t-shirts\, or public diversity statements are ways many have tried to showcase their intention to be inclusive. However\, on their own\, these measures do nothing to achieve objectives related to reconciliation\, diversity\, equity and inclusion\, solidarity or allyship. \nBringing together business and community leaders\, this virtual panel will explore some of the deeper understandings of what drives inequities for 2SLGBTQIA+ people in the workplace. SUMMARY:Member Workshop: More than a Rainbow: Cultivating 2SLGBTQIA+ Belonging at Work
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, May 11\, 2022\, from 12 PM to 1 PM EDT – this event is exclusive for employees of our Proud Partners and Community Partners. \nA rainbow logo in celebration of Pride sends a message about an employer’s intention to be inclusive of 2SLGBTQIA+ clients and employees. Rainbows\, on their own\, do not result in measurable change for 2SLGBTQIA+ employees or achieve objectives related to diversity\, equity and inclusion. In fact\, new research shows that introducing brand-related measures without meaningful action can backfire and alienate queer and trans jobseekers and employees. \nThis workshop will guide employers to a deeper understanding of what drives inequities for 2SLGBTQIA+ people in the workplace. Exploring qualitative and quantitative data highlights from “Building the evidence base about economic\, health\, and social inequities faced by LGBTQ2S+ individuals in Canada\,”* attendees will be provided with practical steps they can take that are less performative and more impactful. \nAbout SRDC\nThe Social Research and Demonstration Corporation (SRDC) is a non-profit research organization\, created specifically to develop\, field test\, and rigorously evaluate new programs. SRDC’s two-part mission is to help policy-makers and practitioners identify policies and programs that improve the well-being of all Canadians\, with a special concern for the effects on the disadvantaged\, and to raise the standards of evidence that are used in assessing these policies. \n*”Building the evidence base about economic\, health\, and social inequities faced by LGBTQ2S+ individuals in Canada” is a research project funded by Women and Gender Equality Canada\, and carried out by SRDC in collaboration with Dr. Sean Waite at the University of Western Ontario\, Pride at Work Canada\, and the Labour Market Information Council. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nIdentify the key factors influencing employment inequities of 2SLGBTQIA+ employees and job seekers\nShowcase how rainbows without action can negatively impact your organization’s brand among the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities\nProvide actionable best practices to build bring a sense of belonging for 2SLGBTQIA+ employees and jobseekers\n\nAudience: \n\nDiversity\, Equity & Inclusion professionals\nEmployee Resource Group members\nCommunity engagement professionals\nMarketing and communications professionals\nCorporate Social Responsibility departments\n\nPresenter:\n[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″] Kelsey Brennan (she/her)\, Research Associate at Social Research and Demonstration Corporation (SRDC) \nAn expert in research\, evaluation and capacity building related to LGBTQ2S+ engagement\, youth programs\, employment supports\, and Northern land-based programs. SUMMARY:National Member Webinar: Intersectionality in the Workplace: Broadening the Lens of Inclusion
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, April 13\, 2022\, from 12 PM to 1 PM EDT – this event is exclusive for employees of our Proud Partners and Community Partners. \nFor Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion (DE&I) efforts to be truly impactful\, we all need to better understand and apply the concept of intersectionality to our workplaces. \nWhen some people face prejudice\, the targeted characteristics overlap. This makes the experiences of discrimination or oppression unique. For example\, a woman with autism an autistic woman\, a woman of colour or an older transgender person can face prejudice due to their overlapping social identities. What’s more\, how a woman of colour experiences gender discrimination is different from how a white woman will experience it. \nTherefore\, people leaders\, DE&I or HR leaders must make room for intersectionality within their DE&I or belonging practices. If you ignore intersectionality\, you’re overlooking the reality of your employees’ experiences at work and in communities. Join Elise Ahenkorah\, award-winning Inclusion Strategist and Speaker to learn thought-provoking and practical tips to build a workplace where everyone can thrive. \nThis interactive training is designed to better equip leaders and teammates with: \n\nUnderstanding what intersectionality is\nImportance of intersectionality to the workplace\, employee retention\, engagement and DE&I and belonging initiatives\nHow to embed intersectionality into your workplace culture\, systems\, DE&I initiatives\, and individual daily actions\nIdentifying resources to learn more\n\nAudience: \n\nAll employees of our Proud Partner and Community Partner organizations\nDiversity\, Equity & Inclusion professionals\nEmployee Resource Group members\n\nPresenter:\n[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″] Elise Ahenkorah (she/her)\, Inclusion Strategist and Speaker\, inclusion FACTOR \nElise Ahenkorah is an award-winning diversity\, equity\, and inclusion (DE&I) strategist\, speaker\, and founder of #shemeets\, a women-of-colour entrepreneurship resource group. SUMMARY:(French) National Member Webinar: Evolution of rights for LGBT+ families
DESCRIPTION:(Please notice that this event will be offered in French.) \nWednesday\, January 26\, 2022\, from 12 PM to 1 PM EST – this event is exclusive for employees of our Proud Partners and Community Partners. \nIn the 1990s\, families with LGBTQ2+ parents were completely invisible in our society and had no legal recognition. However\, over the course of only 25 years\, LGBTQ2+ families in Quebec have acquired a number of rights\, making our society one of the most pioneering in the world. The media is very interested in family diversity\, assisted reproduction\, adoption\, surrogacy\, multi- and poly-parent families and issues such as access to origins and fertility preservation for trans people. Laws to recognize LGBTQ2+ families have been passed. Courts have issued life-changing decisions. However\, the recognition of these rights is an ongoing process\, as family structures and different ways of constituting a family continue to proliferate. This presentation by Mona Greenbaum\, Executive Director of the LGBT+ Family Coalition\, outlines key legislative and legal moments while providing examples of their impact on the lives of affected families. \nPresenter:\n[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″] Mona Greenbaum (she/her)\, Executive Director\, LGBT+ Family Coalition \nMona Greenbaum is the founder and executive director of the LGBT+ Family Coalition\, an advocacy organization for families with lesbian\, gay\, bisexual and trans parents. The organization has received three “Gala Arc-en-Ciel” awards in recognition of its social activism. Their main mission is to train intervention workers in schools\, social services and community organizations. To date\, they have conducted more than 1000 courses in the 17 regions of Quebec\, reaching more than 40\,000 workers\, in order to build awareness of the importance of intervening against homophobic and transphobic violence and heteronormativity. From 2004 to 2006\, Mona was a member of the Joint Working Group against Homophobia (“Groupe de travail mixte contre l’homophobie”) of the “Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse”. The Group’s mission was to examine the reality of homophobia in Quebec and to recommend institutional and governmental measures to address the problems and needs identified. Mona was involved in the subcommittees on health and social services\, education\, family\, seniors and the status of women\, ethnocultural communities\, and community life. The final report resulting from this work\, published in February 2007\, formed the basis of the “Politique nationale de lutte contre l’homophobie” (2009) and its subsequent action plans (2011-2015 and 2016-2021). In 2010\, Mona was awarded the Medal of the National Assembly of Quebec\, recognizing her many years of activism within the LGBT community. In 2015\, in honour of the 40th anniversary of the Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms\, the “Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse du Québec” selected Mona as one of the 40 individuals who have had an exceptional career defending or promoting the rights included in the Charter. Mona is also a consultant and trainer for the Public health expertise and reference centre (“Institut national de santé publique du Québec – INSPQ”).[/vc_column][/vc_row] \nRegistration for this event has closed.\nThis event is exclusive for employees of our Proud Partners and Community Partners.
