The Opportunity
The Video Technician / Cameraperson provides collaborative video support for all artists on campus, consistent with the artistic objectives of The Banff Centre, and the needs of individual artistic projects.
Roles and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Production Manager, Media and Production, duties will include:
- Providing support in Video production in the capacities of camera operator, grip, gaffer, lighting technician, location sound technician.
Is a lead member of the video production unit on projects making on the spot sound technical decisions based on specific deadlines. - Works with the Senior Recording Engineer to maintain archival systems for audio and video tape storage, and other archival materials and records.
- Coordinates the technical realization of projects conducted in the Project studio or Rice studio, or other Program Operations facilities.
- Is a lead hand in set up and strike of workshops.
- Assists with establishing schedules and plans which provide for appropriate studio access, resource estimation, design, installation, and support of special projects or on-going programs.
- Specify, order, and organize proper storage of production expendables such as lighting gels, diffusion materials, spare lamps, microphone cables, hardware items, first aid supplies, safety equipment, and building supplies.
- Provide safe installation and operation of lighting fixtures, television grip equipment, sets and other equipment as required for studio location. Provide basic maintenance and minor repairs to lighting fixtures, grip equipment purchases, and other production hardware
- Ensure that the production facilities, equipment, and storage areas are secure, and sign out, and track studio equipment.
- Ensure that safety procedures, policies and equipment care are understood by all users, and develop new procedures as required.
Qualification and Educational Requirements
- A minimum of 3 years post graduate and/or field experience.
- Knowledge of the equipment that is used in television video production
- Knowledge of the methods and concepts needed to create or perform works of art, areas should include photography, visual arts, sculpture.
- Knowledge of mathematics, physics and electronics
- Must be able to work unsupervised and show initiative in trouble shooting problems and communicating with clients
- Possess a high standard of customer service and strong organizational skills
- Professional understanding of roles, positions and safety when working on a set.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and listening skills.
Employment Terms & Benefits
- In accordance with CUPE 4318, this is a unionized, casual support staff position.
- This position pays $28.46 per hour working up to 35 hours per month on an on-call, as needed basis.
