Reporting to the Director of Casualty, the Unit Claims Manager of Casualty will be responsible for managing and controlling operations to meet corporate objectives in the casualty department. You will provide technical expertise and leadership to employees to ensure efficient and effective work processes, quality service, and continuous improvement.
This role will give you the chance to:
Manage the operations of the Unit to achieve key business goals. This includes: communicating corporate philosophy, vision, and values; motivating staff to participate in unit objectives; continuously keeping them informed of changes or new directions with use of effective change management techniques; soliciting feedback regarding operations; and coordinating assignments within the unit.
Facilitate continuous learning and development; preparing and discussing performance management with unit staff members; participating in salary administration process for employees in the unit.
Resolve complex claims related issues and/or escalate problems according to company policies.
Ensure that corporate policies, claims standards, and procedures are followed.
Maintain effective communication channels with other departments, liaise with other claims experts or management on technical and administrative issues.
Attend and participate in legislative/judicial hearings and alternate dispute resolution meetings when appropriate and necessary.
Authorize settlements of claims in accordance with authority limits.
3 years or more of supervisory experience is considered an asset OR 5 or more years in a Senior insurance role mentoring and developing employees
College diploma or university degree (preferred)
Completed or are working toward a Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation (preferred)
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with all levels of staff and brokers
Experience in coaching and developing staff
Proven leadership skills
Excellent customer service skills
Provide open and honest feedback and communication to staff
Complete and thorough working knowledge of Commercial Liability claims
Additional experience in auto BI and personal liability claims is considered an asset.
