Transportation Manager – Central New Brunswick Woodlands

J.D. Irving, Limited, is looking for an innovative and energetic leader to join our team in Central New Brunswick as a Transportation Manager.

 

Over the next three years the Woodlands Division is significantly increasing the volume of product we transport from our forest operation to our mill customers. To meet this challenge, the successful candidate will lead a team of transportation professionals and work collaboratively with various other departments to revolutionize how transportation is done within our region.

Qualifications:

  • University or technical college degree in related field is considered an asset. Other degree programs may be considered
  • Master of Business Administration considered an asset
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing a team
  • Experience in transportation industry is considered an asset
  • Experience in the Forest industry is considered on asset
  • Strong organization and communication skills
  • Class 5 driver’s license

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Central New Brunswick woodlands trucking team that runs 24/7 through short-term daily management and long-term strategic improvements
  • Improve the efficiency and financial health of our current trucking fleet
  • Increase the capacity of our current trucking fleet
    • 1.5M tonnes /year in 2023 and grow to 2M tonnes/year by 2025
  • Collaborate with our planning and road building staff to align road construction, wood flow and new truck configuration initiatives with our growth plan
  • Improve workforce efficiencies and eliminate waste from the system
  • Develop a strong team of company truck drivers and influence a positive company culture


KPIs - below are some of the metrics for this role:

  • Maintain a critical injury rate of zero
  • Achieve 100% on our safety compliance programs
  • Work on continual development of our safety management system
  • Manage transportation cost for the region according to budget
  • Manage contractor financial health
  • Improve parameter payloads and speed
  • Optimize truck configuration strategy for CNB Woodlands
  • 100% of seats filled with double shifted trucks
  • Work with IT on efficiencies such as digital load slips and truck navigation systems
  • Yard cost per ton versus budget and forecast
