Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity aims to inspire everyone who attends our campus – artists, leaders, and thinkers – to unleash their creative potential.

We acknowledge that this territory is home to the Shuswap Nations, Ktunaxa Nations, and Metis Nation of Alberta, Rockyview District 4. We acknowledge all Nations who live, work, and play, help us steward this land, and honour and celebrate this place. 

The Opportunity

The Ticket Seller is integral to Banff Centre’s ability to deliver exemplary and world-class audience experiences during scheduled events and/or performances.

This role supports Banff Centre by selling tickets for events and/or performances and providing superb customer service to Box Office patrons. The Ticket Seller carries out their role and responsibilities consistent with venue policies, safety procedures, dress code standards, and values within the operation of a professional theatre facility and arts organization.

Roles and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Audience Sales and Services Manager, below are some key accountabilities: 

  • Utilize computerized ticketing & point of sale systems to execute accurate in-person sales, phone orders, online orders, and merchandise sales (as applicable).
  • Strictly adhere to all cash float and cash handling policies and procedures. 
  • Adhere to established policies and procedures for promotions, exchanges and refunds as well as the complimentary ticket policy for each event and/or performance.
  • Adhere to the established rush-seat sales policy and procedures (as appropriate).
  • Ensure that all event and/or performance Will Call tickets are printed before the Box Office opens.
  • Support patrons through the reprint of tickets (as appropriate).
  • Process complimentary ticket requests from specific and approved Banff Centre staff members.
  • Provide accurate and timely information to the public.
  • Monitor and maintain the Box Office email inbox, including answering inquiries and providing email support to patrons.
  • Process Cashier Remittance Reports (CRRs) (as appropriate). 
  • Provide timely, consistent, and effective responses and confirmations to staff scheduling and availability requests.
  • Be informed about upcoming Banff Centre performances and events.
  • Maintain a high standard of timeliness, thoroughness, and professionalism.
  • Arrive at work attired in established uniform / dress code, including nametag.  

Qualifications and Educational Requirements

  • Superior retail sales and customer service experience.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of products and working in a computerized office environment.
  • Experience with ticket selling or customer relationship management (CRM) platforms is an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Customer focused approach. 
  • Passion for multiple disciplines within the Arts.
  • Shift assignment flexibility: daytime, evenings, and weekends as dictated by event activity.
  • Effective and creative problem-solver.
  • Handle patron complaints and concerns in a clear and courteous manner.
  • Ability to problem solve responsibly within the guidelines and policies of the department
  • Ability to calmly and tactfully provide service excellence within tight timelines. 
  • Flexibility with respect to change.
  • A thorough understanding of the Banff Centre departments and services.

Special Requirements

  • Our busy summer festival season includes 80+ events running from early June through mid-September. Most events take place on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings, with shifts typically starting at 6:00 pm or later, with some late evening shifts ending after 11:30 pm.

Employment Terms and Benefits

  • In accordance with CUPE 4318, this is a unionized, casual support staff position, working up to 35 hours per month on an on-call basis.
  • This position pays $16.64 per hour.
  • To be considered, you must live in the Bow Valley. This position is not eligible for staff housing.

  • We are accepting applications for the Ticket Seller position until a suitable candidate is found. 
  • Candidates offered a position with Banff Centre, in this capacity, will be required to obtain a criminal record check verifying a clear record before a final job offer can be finalized.
  • Visa Requirements: Candidates must be legally eligible to work in Canada. Banff Centre is unable to assist candidates in obtaining Canadian work authorization.
