Theatre Practitioner - Level 3 (Projection/Omni) - Summer Arts Festival

We are hiring for two term positions:  

  • April 2 - Aril 28, 2026 

  • May 13 - 28, 2026

The Opportunity

This position assists with the projection-related needs at Banff Centre. It is understood and expected that the applicant have a specialty and basic competencies in the remaining departments. Job tasks will include working across all technical areas depending on the nature of the production.

The Theatre Practitioner Level 3 provides the operational support required for the delivery of Performing Arts Programs and events.  This role supports the aims and objectives of Performing Arts by taking responsibility for the safe, efficient and precise departmental production requirements of all assigned events, programs and activities on campus.

Roles and Responsibilities

Reporting to Technical Director, below are some key accountabilities:

  • Ensures the timely execution of all projection activity involved in the load in, set-up, operation and strike. Will be required to take on projection responsibilities in a variety Banff Centre studios, venues, and departments  
  • Responsible for supporting the integration of department-wide activities; and may be called to support coordination of a highly specialized activity
  • Execute all job tasks with attention to safety procedures
  • Provide technical production support for music concerts and a wide variety of other productions including dance, opera, and theatre
  • Technically support live music concert performances including string quartets, orchestras, chamber music, new music, rock, pop and others
  • Liaise with other staff to ensure effective support is anticipated and provided to ensure a successful experience for artistic clients, participants and faculty

Qualifications and Educational Requirements 

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a working practitioner in their discipline within a Theatre or Performing Arts production environment
  • Completion of a degree, diploma, or related certificate in Technical Theatre
  • Must be proficient in the use of computers and multi-media and able to operate specialized equipment
  • Must have a working knowledge of projection theories and practices that support this discipline
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to stay calm under pressure
  • Able to work with tight, changing timelines in a fast paced environment
  • Knowledgeable of related industry trends including the application of up to date techniques, and use of special materials and current health and safety standards
  • Able to apply of professional theatre techniques and methods to provide the quality, efficiency and support level required by Performing Arts
  • Must be comfortable working in both Windows and MacOS environments
  • Experience with video playback software including WATCHOUT, Isadora and Q-Lab is required.  Experience with additional, similar platforms would be considered an asset

Special Requirements

  • Due to the nature of the job, this position requires the candidate to be available to work a flexible, irregular schedule and weekends.

Employment Terms and Benefits

  • In accordance with CUPE 4318, this is a unionized, hourly support staff position, subject to a 500 hour probationary period.
  • This position pays between $27.17 and $31.51 per hour depending on experience, working up to 40 hours per week on a rotating schedule.
  • We are hiring for 2 term positions: from April 2 - 28, 2026 and May 13 - 28, 2026
