About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Testing Support Associate - Surveillance & Discovery to join our dynamic Testing team.
The Testing team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by providing process, project, surveillance data support and subject matter expertise to the Medical/Scientific Leadership and Testing sites. This will include engaging laboratory and surveillance Medical/Scientific Leadership on a routine basis. The Testing Support Associate, S&D will also establish, implement, monitor and evaluate results from relevant key performance indicators (KPI) and ensure excellent customer service is provided to both internal and external customers. The incumbent will be required to provide subject matter expertise that will assist in planning, performing development work, implementation and development of surveillance data for new projects or initiatives.
Formula for success
Participates in new projects or initiatives for Testing by:
- Providing input and assistance in the development of project proposals/plans, decision documents and business cases.
- Writing project related validation scripts, and decision documents.
- Providing detailed analysis and other input into the planning and implementation of strategic initiatives.
- Undertaking activities to ensure quality throughout the validation of new testing processes.
- Develops and assists the Testing sites with the monitoring of Key performance Indicators (KPIs) associated with the new implementation and collaborating on corrective measures.
- Organizing project data and supporting surveillance activities.
Supporting the maintenance of Scientific Expertise and Responsiveness. Works with Medical/Scientific Leadership to:
- Maintain biorepository information including by collaborating with laboratory staff on details pertaining to sending samples to a third party for additional testing and collecting returning test result data.
- Maintain surveillance data and generate surveillance reports to provide support for the generation of publications and identify potential improvement initiatives.
- Participate in the process of appropriate evaluation of test kits, reagents, equipment and/or software by developing user requirements, specifications, selection criteria and decision matrices to ensure the selection of the appropriate product.
Provision of technical skills to support Testing Quality initiatives as a subject matter expert:
- Supports organizational quality improvements and studies such as sample stability studies. Provides subject matter expertise to staff.
- Ensures that recommendations put forth and decisions made by Medical/Scientific Leadership, Testing Leadership and Testing site management are documented and maintained.
Desired education and skills
- Completion of secondary education in a relevant discipline such as B. Sc. in Laboratory Science or Advanced Registered Technologist is required.
- Minimum 5+ years experience as a Senior or Charge Technologist capacity with 10+ years experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist where testing processes are being supported.
- 4+ years experience working in project management/quality management with good manufacturing processes.
- Required to process the appropriate provincial Medical Laboratory Technologist license.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical and planning skills required.
- Strong written, oral and presentation skills in English
- Previous experience in research, surveillance and epidemiology, laboratory validation activities, surveillance activities and project implementation activities are a strong asset.
- Experience in project management, QMS systems and GMP is preferred.
