Are you passionate about innovation and technically savvy? In this role, you will be responsible to discover, develop, pilot and deploy strategic technology that will improve Suncor’s ability to execute and advance aquatic closure for Oil Sands Mining and In Situ sites.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Develop a research program and pursue selected projects to improve integrated aquatic reclamation and closure design within all areas of Technology Development programs with the primary focus on pit lakes and wetlands
  • Lead cross functional teams and third party experts on selected projects and bring forward new technology and innovative projects
  • Act as Suncor’s key representative on ,external research efforts and collaborations such as COSIA and work closely with Intellectual Property Lawyers and initiate Non-disclosure Agreements with potential technology providers
  • Ensure due diligence reviews are completed on assigned projects (technical and IP)
  • Build and update technology one-page summaries for management
  • Support business unit and third party research and pilot initiatives

We’d like to review your application if you have…

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • 10 years of experience within research or technology development
  • Technical leadership or expertise within technology and in industry
  • A continuous improvement attitude and you are able to seek greater knowledge and understanding of the systems, process and hazards in the workplace
  • A track record of collaboration and the proven ability to build strong cross-discipline and cross-business area relationships
  • Alignment with our values of: safety above all else, respect, raise the bar, commitments matter and do the right thing

Preference for:

  • Direct knowledge and experience in the oil sands industry
  • A post graduate education such as a Master’s or PhD
  • The ability to integrate the inputs of multiple engineering and science disciplines as well as development, facilities, logistics, operations and Risk Management
  • An ability to communicate with regulators and external stakeholders as appropriate
  • Experience in technology development from proof of concept to pilot design (such as through a technology incubator or start-up)

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
