Title: Technologist, Medical Radiation Delegate (MRT) - (Anticipatory Recruitment)

Location: International

Salary Band: $51,028 - $54,663 /year

You want to be part of the world’s largest humanitarian network? You have a passion for helping others, and want to work with other dedicated individuals? By applying, you are taking a big first step to be part of an exciting organization that makes a huge difference in the lives of Canadians here at home and abroad. What are you waiting for?

The Canadian Red Cross – International Operations is seeking experienced Medical Radiation Technological professionals to join our Emergency Response Unit (ERU) delegate register! When you apply to this selection process, you are not applying for a specific job, rather you are applying for a position on the ERU register, to be called upon for future emergency deployments, as and when the need for your professional skillset is required. As opportunities become available, applicants who meet the qualifications may be contacted for further assessment.

At the Canadian Red Cross, we help people and communities in Canada and around the world in times of need and support them in strengthening their resilience. We are committed to having an accessible, diverse, and inclusive work environment where people with all abilities, ethnicities, gender identities and expressions, nationalities, religions, and sexual orientations can reach their full potential. All qualified persons, particularly Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, ethnic minorities, visible minorities, women, veterans, and others who share our values and contribute to fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace are encouraged to apply.

Emergency Response Units (ERU) are teams of trained technical specialists who are ready to deploy on a short notice. ERUs are a vital part of the Red Cross' disaster and emergency response system and are used when the local capacity is overwhelmed. They are designed to be self-sufficient for one month but can operate for up to four months, operating with pre-packed sets of standardized equipment for immediate use. The Canadian Red Cross maintains a roster of vetted and trained personnel ready to be deployed anywhere on short notice in response to international emergencies (natural disasters, conflict, or smaller-scale emergencies). Missions are typically four to six weeks and delegates work closely with the local National Society to provide specific services where local infrastructure are damaged, temporarily out of use or insufficient in coping with needs. Due to the unpredictability of disasters and the response required, individuals may not be deployed until several months or years after becoming part of the roster. Once on the roster, you will be asked to confirm your continuing participation and keep your profile up to date.

As an ERU Medical Radiation Technologist delegate, you must have:

  • Minimum 3 years professional experience in medical radiation technology

  • Previous experience in a radiology department that uses hard copy films and analogue equipment.

  • Experience in monitoring equipment performance and conducting basic verification and quality control checks on radiographic equipment

  • Academic qualification in Medical Radiation Technology

  • Current Professional Registration (registered and in good standing) in Canada

  • Previous international experience in a humanitarian context

  • Fluency in English

  • Availability to deploy on short notice—48-72 hours and on unaccompanied missions of 4-6 weeks

  • Excellent physical & mental health with the ability to complete and maintain a thorough medical screening and receive medical clearance prior to departure in the field

  • Completion of mandatory online courses and in-person training as required upon selection and onboarding

  • Successful completion of Vulnerable Sector criminal record and professional reference checks

What we are looking for:

  • Fluency in additional languages (French, Spanish, Arabic & Mandarin are major assets)

  • Experience working in an emergency context

  • Experience living/working in hardship and/or low-resource environments

  • International driving license OR experience driving standard transmission

  • First Aid/CPR certification

  • Previous experience working/volunteering with the Red Cross or Red Crescent Movement

  • Professional certification or post-graduate qualification in trauma/emergency radiation technology, humanitarian affairs or other relevant fields is preferred

  • Skills in training, facilitation, coaching and development of staff and volunteers

What we offer our delegates:

  • Competitive pay and benefits package

  • Travel, accommodation, medical & insurance coverage when deploying

  • Pre-deployment and recurring training programs and professional development events in Canada and abroad

  • And much more! See the list here: http://www.redcross.ca/about-us/jobs/before-you-apply/benefits
