Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Transit Business Systems, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing projects related to technical and business improvements to improve the efficiencies and end effectiveness of the transit organization along with supporting the technical application and gathering the Business Requirements as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Project management, business case development, and integrated process re-design and system implementation to support changed processes as they relate to the implementation of various Transit Applicatons.
- Identifying continuous improvement opportunities by collecting and analyzing operations data, identifying and prioritizing process improvement opportunities, and then developing and deploying solutions to align operations to the strategic direction of the Transit division;
- Business case development and liaises with appropriate internal/external stakeholders in the assessment, development, and implementation of technical business projects
- Requires a high degree of independent work, as well as close team work with clients and other team members
- Submitting written reports detailing project plans, business case justification, business recommendations, and implementation schedule to the Manager and appropriate stakeholders for feedback and consultation
- Responsible and accountable for working with project stakeholders to ensure systems that are implemented meet business needs and objectives and are implemented within defined timelines and budgetary allocations
- Developing and coordinating training and information knowledge transfer to appropriate stakeholders as part of system and process implementation as well as to ensure business process effectiveness in all areas of Transit
- Displaying initiative and leadership on the job by analyzing business functional requirements to identify information, procedures, and decision flows
- Providing expert advice in developing and integrating new organizational models to eliminate information and process redundancies
- Providing leadership and facilitating special project teams to assist them in the identification of opportunities, solutions and action plans for implementation
- Preparing or assisting with the presentation of recommendations to management and the communication of results and expectations to staff; assist with transition issues and monitor progress towards goals
- Assisting the Manager in identifying technical business trends and issues which impact the strategic direction of the Transit division by researching and bench marking other operations and systems to increase understanding of current and future business environments
- Leading or assisting with business process reviews
- Maintaining a working knowledge of the Collective Agreement, Mississauga Transit operating policies, practices and procedures, as well as all other relevant legislation
- Ensuring that system and process changes adhere to these documents
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Skills and Qualifications
- Graduation from a recognized post-secondary program in Business Administration, IT, Engineering with 3 to 5 years related experience. Specific knowledge of the Transit and/or financial industry is an asset
- Previous experience on GIRO/HASTUS Software/Modules will be an asset.
- Experience in any CAD/AVL System /Asset Management will be an asset.
- Experience working in PRESTO fare system will be an asset.
- Demonstrated experience in evaluating, recommending and/or implementing organizational transformations is required
- Previous experience on business process improvement projects, documented and analyzed business processes, calculated benefits for proposed changes, presented solutions, and developed final deliverables
- Ability to develop and maintain business plans, evaluate and analyze the functionality and capabilities of existing and proposed business operations.
- Thinks strategically about business issues with a strong bias for action and business solutions
- Excellent research, analytical and problem solving skills supported by project management experience; team leadership and facilitation capabilities
- Knowledge of the relevant I.T. Frameworks (ITIL,TOGAF etc.)
- Experience and understanding of Transit scheduling, maintenance, garage and on-street practices and procedures
- Demonstrated ability to initiate and execute projects utilizing sound project management principles, practices, and theories
- Ability to self-manage in a timely and organized fashion
- Strong report writing skills are essential
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills working independently and as part of a multi-faceted team with both internal and external interests
Hourly Rate/Salary: $47.72- $63.63
