The Role

We are currently searching for a Supervisor, TBS Accounting. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity. This position is responsible for accounting and financial reporting for Brewers Retail Inc. operating as The Beer Store (TBS). The Supervisor, TBS Accounting is accountable for the accurate and timely delivery of financial information ensuring compliance with company policies and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). The position manages a team of three full-time employees and is a key member of the Finance department.  

Location: Our Corporate Office is located in Bolton, ON. We offer Remote/Hybrid Flex work with visits into the office on an as-needed basis depending on the role and function.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Oversee financial close process for The Beer Store including coordination with Retail, Logistics and Corporate departments to complete all month end close deliverables in accordance with timelines
  • Ensure compliance of internal controls in accordance with financial policies and processes
  • Review and approve journal entries to the general ledger
  • Review and approve balance sheet account reconciliations, ensuring timely resolution of reconciling items
  • Prepare accurate monthly and quarterly external financial results (balance sheet, income statement and cash flow statement) for distribution to senior management and shareholders
  • Prepare and distribute internal management reporting (detailed operating statements) with budget and prior period comparisons
  • Analyse and investigate financial variances, providing insights to senior management, shareholders, Retail and Logistics teams
  • Facilitate and actively participate in presentation of monthly financial results to Finance senior management
  • Perform ad-hoc analysis and projects as required
  • Actively participate in and/or lead cross functional projects and corporate initiatives
  • Prepare annual financial statements, including accompanying note disclosures
  • Provide support for annual financial statement audits, internal audit engagements and other operational reviews
  • Provide guidance to operational departments and financial planning regarding accounting matters
  • Remain up to date on new IFRS accounting standards and support policy and process changes
  • Coach and mentor direct reports; effectively manage staff workload, actively monitor performance, and provide constructive and timely feedback
  • Perform other related duties and projects as assigned  

Who You Are - Your Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA) required
  • Post secondary degree in accounting or finance
  • 4 – 7 years progressive accounting experience
  • Prior experience in audit and assurance an asset
  • In depth knowledge of IFRS
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and meet tight deadlines
  • Critical thinking; proven problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong leadership and team building skills with a dedication to driving and achieving results
  • Proven experience supervising employees or leading cross-functioning projects
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to concisely summarize and communicate complex issues
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to develop collaborative relationships across the company
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint; advanced Excel skills including the ability to create and manage complex worksheets, pivot tables and macros
  • Experience working with SAP/large ERP systems
