The incumbent will be responsible for planning and coordinating the logistics activities supporting the implementation of the Red Cross’s recovery program (purchasing, stock and inventory management, telecommunications, transportation of equipment and people, fleet management, operations’ support, etc.) at one or more sites, as required.
In this role, you will:
Responsibility 1: Logistics
- Supervise service implementation, under the direction of the Recovery Program Management Office (RPMO) Operations Support Coordinator and in cooperation with the Site Manager.
- Analyze the equipment, material and storage, space and telecommunications needs of their assigned sites and communicate them to the Site Manager and/or the RPMO Operations Support Coordinator.
- Manage requests for materials and liaise with the CRC’s purchaser and/or suppliers.
- Submit requests using CRC processes.
- Identify the logistics volunteer resources required for the operation.
- Assist in recruitment, the orientation and the training of their department’s volunteers, as required.
- Supervise and coordinate logistics activities in the field in accordance with Red Cross Logistics Operating Procedures Guide.
- Fill out the documents required for ensuring the business continuity of their department.
- Ensure proper management of program vehicles, equipment and inventory.
- Make sure that all logistics needs are met.
- Return leased or loaned equipment and facilities when required.
- Keep an operations log.
- Report on logistics activities to the site manager and/or the RPMO operations support coordinator.
- Help maintain and manage the warehouse.
Responsibility 2: Supervision
- Supervise, mentor and coach staff under their supervision.
- Continually assess the human and material resources required for the department’s activities.
- Help staff under their responsibility manage complex cases.
- Ensure compliance with standards and procedures established by the CRC in Quebec.
- Contribute toward safe and secure working environment and spaces supporting occupational health and safety requirements, employment standards, respectful workplace standards, wellness initiatives and a workplace that is free of harassment and violence.
- Prepare and update reports as per CRC standards using applicable systems and tools.
- Provide program and service delivery evaluation, recommendations and change implementation, and prepare reports as required.
- Organize and facilitate briefing and debriefing sessions and internal meetings, as required.
- Provide ongoing performance feedback of staff under their responsibility.
What we are looking for:
- A vocational diploma or a college diploma in a related discipline.
- At least one year of relevant work experience sur as in logistics and procurement. Any other equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
- Experience as a Red Cross emergency management volunteer is an asset, especially as a manager/supervisor.
- An understanding of the role of the CRC during emergency, relief and recovery operations is an asset.
- Knowledge of procurement, storage, transportation and/or distribution processes is an asset.
- Computer literacy is required.
- Ability to remain calm during a crisis: avoid letting their emotions take over, remain professional and positive and act confidently.
- Ability to lift and carry goods weighing up to 23 kg (50 lbs) or help carry goods weighing up to 36 kg (80 lbs).
- Have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
- Ability to climb stairs and get in and out of vehicles frequently.
- Current emergency or standard first aid certification.
Working conditions:
- The incumbent may be required to respond in disaster areas and in difficult, unstable (environmental, physical, social, etc.) and uncomfortable conditions (noise, odours, smoke, humidity, vulnerable clients), which may affect the overall physical and psychological well-being of personnel on site.
- They might be required to respond during non-traditional hours (i.e. late at night or weekends) and work long hours in a demanding context.
- They could be on call according to established scheduled, if so agreed.
- They may be required to deploy anywhere within their assigned territory, as required.
