Job Summary
The Strategy, Government Relations, Global Intelligence, and Pension Advocacy team is seeking an energetic and motivated co-op to support the team on a wide range of priority initiatives. Ideally, the successful candidate would be currently enrolled in a university Political Science, Communications, Commerce or similar program with an interest in public research, geopolitics, and regulatory policy. This is a perfect opportunity to put the knowledge you’ve acquired into action.
What you will do:
Reporting to the Director, Government relations the successful candidate will undertake a variety of functions, including:
Government Relations
Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and prepare concise and relative updates.
Assist in the preparation of written materials, including briefing notes and presentations.
Support the coordination of government meetings including scheduling, logistics, and preparing meeting materials.
Maintain a database of key government contacts and stakeholders.
Stay updated on political developments and the activities of relevant elected officials and political parties.
Strategy and Advocacy
Develop content and prepare research/speaking notes for external events and meetings pertaining to government relations and advocacy.
Prepare and present recurring weekly, monthly, and quarterly briefs to stakeholders while expanding and improving these existing reporting mechanisms.
Assist with the preparation of Board materials.
Global Intelligence
Assist with the research and preparation of recurring and ad hoc intelligence products highlighting relevant international developments that could impact HOOPP.
Conduct geopolitical and regulatory research and analysis.
Provide support for strategic projects.
What you will bring:
Currently pursuing a degree in political science, international relations, or a related field.
Strong research, communications, and inter-personal skills.
Familiarity with Canadian and Ontario politics and government.
The ability to synthesize large quantities of information into clear, concise language with a consistent level of detail with minimal direction.
You apply discretion and sensitivity when working with confidential information.
A self-starter who can work well independently and as part of a team.
You plan, organize, and prioritize your time to meet deadlines.
Exhibit critical and independent thinking in a decentralized work environment.
