Your Opportunity
In this position as an Engineer in Training (E.I.T.), you will have the opportunity to work as part of our Stormwater Team of Engineers and Technologists on multiple projects for a range of public and private sector clients in the City of Calgary and surrounding region. Your Key Responsibilities
- Become familiar with City of Calgary and Province of Alberta design standards.
- Become familiar with Stantec standards and stormwater management report and model development process.
- Develop stormwater management models for existing and proposed stormwater management systems.
- Perform preliminary stormwater engineering calculations and develop preliminary designs.
- Prepare stormwater management reports and technical memorandums for projects.
- Use knowledge of tools and drafting to complete assigned tasks including design changes, site layouts, report figures, dimension control plans, redlining, plotting, and drafting.
- Communicate with internal team members in the Planning, Landscape Architecture, Private Site Delivery, and Engineering Design groups.
- Communicate and work collaboratively with Stormwater Engineers, Project Engineers, and Project Managers to assist in planning, design, analysis, CAD figure preparation, contract documents, technical specifications, and construction cost estimates in connection with a variety of stormwater engineering projects.
- Contribute to project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, clients, and other various project stakeholders, as required.
- May perform field surveys for drawing development, site reviews, and as recorded drawings.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Desire to learn about stormwater management in the context of subdivision and private site development, transportation infrastructure projects, and local/community drainage improvement projects.
- Understand basics of enhanced Civil 3D Software and knowledge of CAD Standards.
- Basic knowledge of software programs including AutoCAD or MicroStation, GIS, PCSWMM, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Collaboratively and cooperatively works effectively in a hybrid team environment (virtual and in-person).
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to work under and meet tight deadlines.
- Has drive and tenacity to complete complex tasks. Is able to work independently on specific tasks.
- Strong organizational skills, along with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and demonstrate a flexible approach to work assignments.
- Eligible for registration with or already registered as a member of APEGA.
Education and Experience
- Civil Engineering Degree or equivalent in related field;
- A Master’s in Science, Civil Engineering, Hydrology/Hydraulics, or related field is an asset; equivalent combination of education and experience is an asset.
- Minimum of 0-2 years of experience.
Position will primarily work in an office setting; may require some field work. Remote working arrangements can also be considered.
