The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Sr. Specialist – Estimating and Cost Control to join our Project Controls team in Toronto.
This is a permanent hybrid position.
This role will be responsible for the following activities, for the main Base Metals projects (FEL1 to Execution, in Canada, Brazil and Indonesia):
- Define the budgeting and cost control processes and procedures for the entire portfolio (Exploration, FEL1, FEL2, FEL3 and Execution), in line with best market practices and considering the different locational contexts (Brazil, Canada and Indonesia).
- Implement training programs for the project management team and other stakeholders, ensuring that everyone is aligned with established standards.
- Support project teams in improving budgeting and cost control practices.
- Manage the multi-annual capital budgeting and performance management.
- Lead technical Planning and CapEx analyzes across the entire portfolio of Base Metals projects, aiming to identify potential gaps and deviation trends in a timely manner to allow effective mitigation actions.
- Prepare and present reports to senior management and project stakeholders, highlighting good practices, risks and potential deviation trends in relation to the approved baseline for the projects.
- Evaluate and implement automated systems and tools that facilitate the cost control routine and put the organization in line with best market practices.
- Support project risk analyses.
- Support the improvement of other disciplines in the Project Controls area: Planning, Risk Management and Change Management.
- Redesign current capital allocation and governance processes and integrate these with Base Metals’ corporate governance.
About You
Education:
- Degree in Engineering, Economics, or related field. Postgraduate degree in project management and/or specific certifications (PMI-PMP, AACE – CCP, AACE – CEP, AACE – EVP, etc.).
Experience:
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in project controls, preferably in large-scale companies (focus: capital projects).
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of project cost control and estimating in capital projects.
- Experience in Earned Value Management.
- Experience in technical audit of projects.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and written/oral communication skills.
- Detail oriented and able to work independently as needed.
- Results-oriented mentality.
