Overview
EDC’s Corporate Lending (“CL”) team manages a portfolio of corporate loan assets for domestic and international borrowers. The CL team is seeking a financing professional with experience in corporate loans credit analysis, structuring, documentation and transaction management.
In close collaboration with EDC’s Business Development, Legal Services, Corporate Sustainability & Responsibility Groups, as well as domestic and international banking partners, the successful candidate will be relied upon to understand the customer’s needs, structure a solution which addresses those needs, assess the credit risk and recommend risk mitigation strategies to achieve the optimal balance between customer-centricity and EDC’s business requirements. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with other team members in managing the risks of a loan portfolio in a specific sector or geographic region.
Discipline Summary
- Conducts regular risk analysis and credit reviews of a portfolio of loans and guarantees
- Conducts due diligence and assesses company credit, industry, country, CSR, and other applicable risks
- Supports the negotiation of risk mitigants, financial terms and conditions and establishes or validates appropriate transaction pricing compliant with market window or consensus pricing guidelines
- Uses financial models, including appropriate assumptions, drivers and methodology
- Leads and/or supports the credit recommendation process for new loans and credit reviews and obtains all required approvals
- Reviews credit documentation in collaboration with legal counsel
- Works in collaboration with business customers, foreign buyers, financial institutions and other organizations to deliver financial solutions.
- Provides support in structuring and delivering financing solutions which may include direct loans, syndicated loan participations, guarantee structures, leasing, etc.) that support the needs of customers across all industry sectors
- Assists the business development teams with on-going customer service throughout the transaction process
Responsibilities
- Applies knowledge of financing and general lending/loan practices to support the delivery of new loans and support the existing portfolio
- Assesses and mitigates transaction risks on standard transactions and portfolios
- Leads the projection analysis and modelling in support of transactions
- With oversight, authors credit submissions and formulates pricing analysis reflective of risk and market conditions
- Supports the account management function in managing customer expectations at various stages of the process
- Determines financial eligibility of customers, borrowers and other counterparties and along with counsel, supports the review of loan documentation
- In support of the portfolio, remains knowledgeable of risks and market trends in sectors/ regions
Screening Criteria
- Completed an Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or in a related field
- Minimum 4-5 years' experience in financial services, with a notable preference for experience in a corporate lending environment or closely similar
- Knowledge of structuring/restructuring in corporate lending and/or loan portfolio management
- Credit analysis, risk assessment and negotiation skills
- Comfortable working in or developing Excel based financial models
Assets
- Enrollment in or completion of a professional designation (CFA, CPA)
- MBA
- Ability to communicate in both official languages (English and French), as well as other key international trading market languages.
- Knowledge of general business practices and international business issues
Compensation Details:
Sr. Associate, Corporate Lending (Underwriter 16): Salaries typically range from $71,063 to $94,752 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive.
Sr. Associate, Corporate Lending (Underwriter 17): Salaries typically range from $81,012 to $108,017 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive.

- Export Development Canada is a hybrid work environment.
- This role will be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa.
