Sport Fitness School is a multi-sport programs that provides children and youth ages 6-16 with opportunities in a wide range of sport and fitness related activities. The camp is designed to influence healthy, active lifestyle choices, positive social interaction and individual development through sport and play.
The SFS Leadership Team is responsible for the entire SFS camp program and ensures that all university and department policies are adhered to, that risk management is given thoughtful consideration in every activity, and that we are actively creating staff, camp, and sport culture that contribute to our goal of building a healthy and inclusive community through sport.
Job Summary:
Responsible for the ongoing coordination of activity or program including scheduling, onboarding, and ongoing support. There are six distinct areas of leadership responsibility: Senior Management, Administration, Staff Support and Development, Fitness, Leadership Development Programs, and One-on-One Behavioural Support (please click this link for full details (Leadership Team, McMaster Sport Fitness School | Recreation).
Accountabilities:
1. Prepare and coordinate scheduling of temporary staff.
2. Participate in the recruitment process for temporary staff.
3. Conduct training for temporary staff and complete evaluations to provide regular feedback.
4. Ensure high-quality sport/activity experience on program or activity including staff performance, officiating, activity instruction and equipment performance.
5. Act as primary support for temporary staff and provide assistance to resolve issues relating to activity area.
6. Update and maintain files, correspondence, and records in accordance with established guidelines.
7. Organize meetings and events for a variety of initiatives.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Possess current certifications of Standard First Aid & CPR Level C by start of camp.
- Applicable certifications required for program area (i.e., aquatics, outdoor recreation, fitness, etc.)
Experience:
- Related supervisory experience in a recreation setting is preferred.
Assets:
* Experienced and passionate with respect to creating a safe, inclusive, enjoyable, and memorable children's sport experience.
* Proven ability of leadership of co-workers, staff, or peer groups
* Administrative experience is an asset.
* Highly organized, manages time and prioritizes work tasks in a fast-paced environment.
* Strong interpersonal skills.
* Respected member of the SFS staff in previous seasons, and thorough understanding of the SFS specific operations are an asset.
