The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Specialist Strategy join our Coporate Strategy team in Toronto, Sudbury or St. John’s.

 

The role is a permanent hybrid position. This posting is for an existing position vacancy.

 

As a Specialist Strategy you will support cross-functional initiatives including Corporate Development and Investor Relations, support critical business strategic analysis, support continuous improvement of the strategic planning cycle and/or provide any other support to execute upon the team’s accountabilities

 

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Participate in the development of the company’s portfolio strategy (buy, sell, build, partner) including desired commodity portfolio, scenarios for industry evolution, desired focused by stage of the value chain and asset maturity, preferred geographic and mineralization styles and other strategic options
  • Support the development and communication of long term business goals and targets
  • Conduct analysis and consulting on complex assignments.
  • Support strategic and technical rational for key business decisions including detailed option analysis
  • Develop, maintain and evaluate appropriate financial models
  • Develop competitive intelligence and provide an external perspective on operations
  • Participate on due diligence teams for Corporate Development projects, as required.
  • Support the construction of internal and external strategy presentations

  • Work with cross functional groups throughout the organization to achieve critical business tasks
  • Work with urgency to evaluate opportunities in a timely manner in the development of VBM’s priorities

About You

Education:

  • An undergraduate degree in Finance or Technical/Engineering
  • P.Eng/MBA/CFA preferred

 

Experience:

 

  • A minimum of 5-8 years’ relevant experience

 

Skills:

  • Knowledge of Metals Markets (pricing, attractiveness, major players, etc.)
  • Technical knowledge of mining and processing (ability to challenge technical teams on their assessment)
  • Business & financial experience, including extensive business analysis capabilities
  • Communication skills to manage cross-functional team inputs and build presentations
  • Collaboration and strong relationship building skills
  • Critical and conceptual thinking

At Long Harbour, we operate a state-of-the-art processing plant, which refines nickel concentrate from Vale Base Metals’ Voisey's Bay mine, located in Labrador, into nickel, copper, and cobalt products. This plant is a cornerstone of our commitment to value-added processing in Canada. Meanwhile, the Voisey's Bay mine is one of the world's most substantial nickel deposits. It provides high-quality nickel, copper, and cobalt, essential for the 21st century economy.
