Our Newfoundland and Labrador Operations are an integrated mining, milling, and processing operation. Nickel concentrate from the fly-in, fly-out Voisey’s Bay operation is shipped to our state-of-art Long Harbour Processing Plant where it is refined into low-carbon and high-purity nickel rounds, cobalt rounds and copper cathodes.
Our Team
The Learning & Development team supports our stakeholders by providing onboarding, functional training, and safety training opportunities. We also work to develop new apprentices and support a Mine Beginner Program and JRTP to engage our local communities and bring in talent we can train to do the work required in our operations.
The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Skills Development Trainer to join our Training Department in Voisey’s Bay. This fixed-term position will be on a 2 week on/2 week off rotation working at the mine site.
The primary role of the Skills Development Trainer will be to assist with onboarding new hires and maintain the Learning Management System (LMS) and to act as the subject matter expert of the system. In this position, you will:
- Run New Employee Onboarding (NEO) for all new hires and ensure a seamless onboarding experience.
- Act as Subject Matter Specialist in the LMS platform, educate and actively engage all employees on use
- Administration of internal and external training scheduling, the Peer Training program, training data management, and online external training programs
- Assist with management of the apprenticeship program, Job Readiness Training Program, and Mine Beginner Program and ensure alignment with Aboriginal Affairs
- Conduct Training Needs Assessments and work with stakeholders to create curricula to address needs
- Provide support to students enrolled in external educational programs via tutoring, securing required assistance and establishing individual development plans
- Deliver trainings such as WorkplaceNL Supervisor Health and Safety, Vale’s Mines for Minds, and others as required.
About You
Education:
- Minimum completion of High School is required
- Post-secondary education in Adult Education preferred
- Existing regulatory trainer certifications preferred
Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years in training and/or adult education
Skills:
- Ability to work with minimum supervision and achieve targets with tight adherence to deadlines
- Strong computer skills (Learning Management Systems, Word, Excel, Power Point, PowerBI, etc.)
- Experience with coordination of training, training in the classroom and/or hands on training
- Proven ability to analyze data and prepare reports
- Experience working in a diverse culture
- High degree of knowledge about Provincial Adult Education guidelines and Provincial OH&S regulations
- Self-motivated and an active team member in the achievement of team goals
- Strong presentation, oral and written communication skills and the ability to facilitate effectively
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and interpersonal skills
