Server and Cloud System Engineer
The Server & Cloud Systems Engineer is a member of a team of Infrastructure Specialists holding a specific focus on the technical implementation and delivery of projects related to on-premises Server Systems, Microsoft M365, Microsoft Azure, and potentially Amazon Web Services where required.
The engineer role will work closely with infrastructure staff, architecture services, IT Security, and project deliver teams to support the design, discovery, exploration, and delivery of new technologies and capabilities that support the College’s business environment. The role will contribute to the development of cloud policies, standards and procedures, and further build structures and technology to support governance and oversite of cloud technologies while delivering quality projects with a focus on availability, security, privacy, and delivering an exceptional user experience to the College community.
To be compliant with the Acceptance of Payment Card Policy and PCI Requirements, this position is required to provide a Police Check prior to the commencement of employment.
Responsibilities:
The duties of this position will include, but are not limited to the following:
Project Delivery
- Work collaboratively with project teams and provide technical knowledge, expertise, and guidance to Management, Architecture Services, Infrastructure Specialists, and Project Deliver Leads on the technical implementation of Server and Cloud Systems.
- Deliver on technical implementation of Private, Hybrid, and Public Cloud technologies that support enhancing business capabilities and services to the College.
- Directly participate in the delivery and ongoing support of Unified Communications with Microsoft Teams replacing Microsoft Lync and legacy telecommunications technologies.
- Directly participate in the delivery and ongoing support of M365 features and functionality including OneDrive, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online and maximizing College value by rolling out Microsoft A5 Cloud Licensing components.
- Work collaboratively to deploy Desktop as a Service and prepare support material for ongoing operations.
- Contribute to and review project plans and designs related to Private, Hybrid, and Public Cloud technologies.
- Deliver quality technology systems aligned to Architectural Principles with Security and Privacy inherently built in by design and implementation.
- Ensure that Security, Availability, and Event Monitoring technology is configured for new platforms or services.
- Ensure that new capabilities have Disaster Recovery plans associated and built.
- Develop scripts related to the provisioning of services, user accounts, cloud platforms, and ongoing maintenance tasks introduced by projects.
- Design self-healing and fault tolerant services.
- Understand and support the deployment of loosely coupled distributed applications.
- Leverage, deploy and support best practice designs related to APIs.
Environment Support
- Directly support the ongoing transition of new projects, capabilities, and services and focus on developing knowledgebase articles, support articles, and public or internal reference documentation for new services.
- Work collaboratively with IT Service Management and Service Desk teams to make sure that documentation is well written, understood, and communicated and that Services published are up to date, accurate, and have Self-service functionality where applicable.
- Support customers with any migration related issues from a Tier 3 perspective in a 3 tier operating model.
- Configure, tune, and maintain newly deployed systems in collaboration with Infrastructure Specialists.
- Monitor performance of new capabilities.
- Ensure that Disaster Recovery functionality works as designed and implemented.
Training Delivery
- Prepare and deliver training material for new capabilities and services for Information Technology, and the College Community with the consideration for both in person, hybrid, and online training modalities.
Research, Learning, & Exploration
- Explore new opportunities and technologies related to current and upcoming projects to ensure that the College is aware and prepared to execute on the planned initiatives.
- Researching emerging leading-edge technology trends in preparation for eventual implementation by the college through pilot projects, one-of-a-kind product testing, prototypes, formal courses, independent research, collaboration with peers at other colleges and reading of journals
- Understand College Architecture, Privacy, and Security requirements and explore how initiatives can be aligned to these over-arching demands.

Qualifications:
The successful applicant will have:
- Post-secondary diploma/degree in Computer Science.
- At least 5 years working within a technology function at a Higher Education institution or similar where project delivery, collaboration, and on the job learning were leveraged to deliver enterprise projects.
- Strong working knowledge in the following areas:
- Microsoft 365 applications and services
- PowerShell scripting for automation and management tasks
- Security and compliance features in Microsoft 365
- Migrating mailboxes from on-premise to Exchange Online
- Migrating Skype for business to Teams
- Problem-solving and communication
- Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion with the ability to communicate and work effectively inter-culturally with diverse groups of students, employees and the community.
