We are currently seeking applications for a Senior Transportation Planning & Traffic Engineer who will be a key member of our Transportation Planning and Traffic Engineering Team (TPTE) in British Columbia. This individual will manage and deliver projects, direct technical staff, participate in business development, encourage innovation, and drive quality and efficiency throughout our business.
Your opportunity:
The role of Senior Transportation Planning & Traffic Engineer will act as deputy to the Transportation Planning and Traffic Engineering Team Lead, and work closely with our Transportation discipline specific Team Leads (Roads, Highways, Airports, Ports, Major Projects, Project Services, Community Development, Construction Services, Bridges, and Rail/Transit) and other Business Centers. This is an exciting opportunity to bring forward new ideas, procure new work, manage and deliver a variety of projects and build on our business center values of excellence, innovation, and people.
You will be responsible for business development, technical work, project management, overseeing and coordinating the work of other staff, and the delivery of projects in any of the following areas:
- Corridor, Network & Area Planning Studies
- Functional and Conceptual Planning
- Project Evaluations and Business Cases
- Active Transportation Planning and Design
- Site Plan Functional Design
- Traffic Modeling
- Traffic Operations
- Transit Planning
- Traffic Impact Studies
- Parking Facility Planning and Design
- Traffic Management Planning
- Traffic Safety
Your Key Responsibilities
- Act as deputy to the Transportation Planning and Traffic Engineering Team Lead
- Work closely with the TPTE team, discipline leads as well as with other Business Centers.
- Grow our TPTE client base and position in the market.
- Successfully lead or assist with proposal preparation.
- Support inter-disciplinary and inter-Business Center strategic pursuits.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key clients.
- Strive to establish our team as leaders in the industry.
- Support additional marketing and business development efforts as needed.
- Manage projects in terms of scope, schedule, and budget.
- Support the implementation and monitoring of quality management practices.
- Proactively look for ways to improve project delivery, quality, and efficiency.
- Assist with workforce planning and resources.
- Assist with recruiting new talent, develop team members and support succession planning.
- Oversee and direct a team of engineers and technical staff to ensure projects’ needs are met in a timely and effective manner.
- Direct technical project work.
- Review project deliverables.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, standards and thought leadership.
- Promote our strong safety culture and ensure this is at the forefront of our business and led by example.
- Ensure professional requirements from regulatory bodies such as a EGBC are consistently followed.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Business development and marketing skills required.
- Ability to lead, motivate, mentor, and develop a team of technical and professional staff and support individuals’ professional development and career growth.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and knowledgeable of relevant technical software including, but not limited to transportation and traffic modeling software such as Synchro, SimTraffic, Visum, Vissim, HCS, etc.
- Demonstrate leadership, sound business principles, excellent communication, and strong people skills.
- Proven project management and people management experience.
- Strong business development acumen.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- General knowledge of relevant transportation planning and traffic engineering policies, practices, and design standards in British Columbia.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Planning, Engineering, or related field.
- Licensed as a Professional Engineer in EGBC.
- 10 to 15 years of experience with at least 5 years of experience overseeing and directing a team of engineers and/or technical staff.
Typical office environment working with computers. Some travel may be required such as attending meetings. May occasionally visit study areas, construction sites and/or be exposed to outside elements and inclement weather conditions.
