Your Opportunity

Our Western Canada Power Delivery group is looking for a Senior Substation Electrical Designer. Reporting to the Substation and P&C Leads, this position offers the opportunity to work within a project team delivering detailed electrical design and project support for high voltage substation and power projects.

The successful candidate will work on substation projects ranging from 5 kV to 500 kV, supporting engineering, physical design, and coordination across disciplines.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed substation physical and electrical design drawings and packages
  • Prepare electrical design deliverables, including one-lines, layouts, grounding, conduit, control house, lighting, and BOMs
  • Cable systems and station service design
  • Perform QA/QC reviews of design packages
  • Interpret and incorporate vendor drawings and specifications into design deliverables
  • Support project execution with progress updates and coordination
  • Assist with cost estimating, proposals, and LOE development
  • Participate in site visits to gather field data and validate designs
  • Support construction, commissioning, and field activities as required
  • Mentoring and training of junior staff
  • Coordinate with engineers and designers across disciplines (civil, structural, P&C)

Capabilities and Credentials

  • Demonstrable experience in 138kV (and above) systems
  • Ability to identify relevant electrical code rules and industry standards for power system and station service design
  • Ability to visualize and evaluate clearances and equipment layouts
  • Strong knowledge of substation layout and physical design
  • Understanding of grounding, lightning protection, and applicable codes
  • Strong safety mindset

Education and Experience

  • Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field
  • ~8+ years of experience in HV substation design
  • Experience developing complete drawing and construction packages
  • Experience with AutoCAD/MicroStation
  • Experience with site visits and field data collection

Typical office environment working with computers. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
