The Opportunity:

WSP E&I currently has an opportunity for a Senior Process Water/Wastewater Project Manager in the Process Water/Wastewater Group, with office locations across Ontario.  The successful candidate will act as a design resource, project manager, and/or client manager within the Process Water/Wastewater Group, on local and international industrial water and wastewater treatment projects in a variety of sectors including food processing, mining and manufacturing. The candidate will also have the opportunity to be involved in renewable energy (waste-to-energy) projects, as well as groundwater remediation and treatment projects.

The candidate will be expected to manage new and existing multi-disciplinary engineering projects, and supervise engineering design. Typical types of projects include industrial sampling programs and data collection, feasibility studies, options evaluations, preliminary design, detailed design, troubleshooting and operations support for both new and existing facilities. Typical clients include light and heavy industrial facilities, mining operations, extractive industries, food processing facilities, automotive manufacturing, and some small municipalities.

A day in the life:

  • Typical project phases and tasks may entail the following:
    • Design of industrial wastewater treatment systems; including wastewater characterization, bench and pilot-scale treatability evaluations, PFD and P&ID development, production of detailed engineering drawings and specifications, construction supervision, and commissioning
    • Economic and technical evaluation of treatment technologies
    • Design, specification, and tendering of major process equipment purchases
    • Economic and technical evaluation of specific treatment equipment
    • Permitting and regulatory submittals
  •   Typical project management duties may include:
    • Managing task execution, and providing guidance to project personnel
    • Working with other disciplines and coordinating design tasks
    • Managing subcontractors
    • Reviewing and managing budgets and project spend
    • Maintaining a project schedule
    • Communicating with clients and managing expectations
    • Managing change
    • Developing health and safety documentation
    • Reviewing and approving billings
  •   Typical proposal tasks can include:
    • Working with Client Account Managers (CAMs) and clients directly to develop scopes of work
    • Reading and understanding RFPs
    • Developing scope of work and time/task matrices
    • Working with other offices and business units to develop project teams
    • Visiting project sites to understand project requirements

 

What you'll bring to WSP ...

  • The candidate will possess a diploma, undergraduate or graduate degree in a relevant field. The candidate will have between 15 and 25 years of industry experience, with at least 5 years of experience in water/wastewater treatment design, or industrial facility design. The ideal candidate will:
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Possess a robust common-sense approach to problem solving
  • Possess a strong background in project management, and experience in industrial sectors, including: food processing, mining, automotive, chemical, pharmaceutical, metal finishing, petroleum, and general manufacturing
  • Have experience managing clients, preparing proposals, and estimating effort for tasks
  • Be self-motivated and proactive
  • Be enthusiastic to engage with the team, and seek out new and exciting opportunities

Additional desirable qualifications include:

  • Experience managing multi-discipline design teams in multiple jurisdictions
  • Project Management Certification
  • Registrations with Provincial Professional Organizations
