JOB OVERVIEW:  SENIOR NETWORK SPECIALIST

Reporting to Associate Director, Technology Service, this position is responsible for providing technical support and administration of the University’s computer and network infrastructure.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Completion of a college diploma or university degree in computing/networking studies, supplemented by 5 years progressive experience.
  • Minimum 2 years hands on experience in administrating VMWare vSphere and Hyper-V
  • Minimum 2 years hands on experience in Microsoft Windows Server Operating systems administration in an enterprise environment
  • Minimum 2 years experience in MS Active Directory and Domain administration
  • Minimum 2 years demonstrated work experience in scripting and automation with advanced knowledge in PowerShell
  • Minimum 2 years experience in enterprise data protection technology
  • Experienced in administering enterprise storage solutions
  • Experienced in Microsoft 365 administration including but not limited to Azure AD, Exchange Online, MS Teams, SharePoint Online 
  • Experience in administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux will be an asset

EMPLOYER REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Thorough knowledge of computer/network system operations, troubleshooting and information security best practices including the ability to quickly grasp new concepts using new technologies. 
  • Knowledge of virtualization technologies including supporting underling hardware infrastructure
  • Good working knowledge and understanding of data storage concepts and protocols
  • Excellent time and task priority management is essential. 
  • Excellent technical written & documentation skills are essential. 
  • Good verbal, communication and well developed interpersonal skills are essential. 
  • Proven ability to deal effectively with others and to handle unusual or unexpected situations. 
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision, under own initiative and as an effective team member. 
  • Ability to independently organize work to achieve predetermined goals and meet deadlines
