As part of central Human Resources Services, the Human Resources Services Centre (HRSC) is the initial point of contact for professional human resources and pay related support to McMaster leaders, faculty, staff and retirees. The HRSC team is fully dedicated to deliver excellence in service and support McMaster employees with timely and accurate solutions.  Imbedded in the HRSC is a core group responsible for HR’s payroll, tax and data compliance functions. This includes the full cycle payroll processes for the University and its affiliated employers, maintaining regulatory and financial controls, and related HR processes and process improvements. The team also supports institution-wide financial reconciliations, internal and external audits and related reporting, as well as key payroll projects and updates throughout the year.
 
The HRSC is seeking a Senior Manager, Payroll Services, Tax and Data Compliance to join our team and personify the Human Resources Services Mission of enabling University priorities, collaborating with our various community partners to help them achieve their goals, deliver excellence in service and solutions, empower learning, as well as champion opportunities for individuals to grow their careers at McMaster.  As a leader at McMaster, the incumbent will have an unwavering commitment to demonstrate McMaster’s Core Leadership Capabilities of Taking a Strategic Approach, Communication and Collaboration, Developing People, Driving Results, Championing Change and Innovation and Investing in Relationships. This position requires one to serve as an expert in payroll management, compliance and data management. Primary responsibilities will be oversight of our complex payroll function and the related compliance requirements, guiding the overall strategic direction of the payroll function in collaboration with University partners, and delivery of an overarching data management and compliance strategy. This position will manage a team of HR/Payroll professionals and will lead the administration of daily University payroll operations, schedules, authorizations as well developing, auditing and communicating payroll data and financial information. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to function as a trusted partner by organizational leaders to help determine the current payroll effectiveness and to establish and maintain a global payroll strategy. In addition, the successful candidate will bring experience in developing and articulating an inspirational, inclusive and people-centred vision to diverse stakeholders, and driving change within a complex environment.  
 
The successful candidate has at least 8 years’ experience within a senior Payroll function and 3 years in a managerial role. A University degree with a focus in Administration, Finance, Accounting or a related field or an appropriate equivalent combination of education and progressive experience is required. You will possess the Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) designation or a Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) and be a member in good standing with the Canadian Payroll Association. Additionally, a Certified Public Accounting designation would be an asset. You are a top performer in your current role with a proven track record of designing, implementing and executing Payroll strategy using a compliance lens. You have sound knowledge of payroll systems and practices, collective agreement interpretation, taxation and data integrity. You exemplify collaborative leadership with the ability to lead a team and are skilled in long-term strategic planning, effective execution of payroll management principles, and strong productive partnerships, resulting in satisfied stakeholders and a capacity to exceed expectations.  You have direct experience with account reconciliation, reporting and scheduling, payroll administration, compliance, strategic payroll and analytics. Hamilton, ON
