The incumbent will be reporting to the Director- Business Development, the Senior Manager- Projects & Publishing will support the efficient development of high-quality, audience-friendly products by the Publishing Team, working closely with the Content Production Manager and Publishing Coordinator.
In this role, you will :
- Directly supervise and manage the Publishing Coordinator and Content Production Manager;
- Resolve Publishing Team questions and roadblocks, escalating or redirecting as needed;
- Manage publishing aspects of projects to help ensure practical, results-driven planning and efficient product development;
- Work with Change Management to assess the readiness of projects for the publishing team to start on, including resolution of questions on roles, resourcing, project scope, and deliverables;
- Collaborate with stakeholders including Program, Supply Chain Management, Publishing Team, and other departments as appropriate to develop product specifications and advise on branded, accessible, cohesive, audience-friendly product lines across physical, digital, and web products;
- Elicit Publishing Team feedback and expertise regarding deliverables, timelines, resources needed, and content and design approaches, and represent the Publishing Team in project negotiations as needed;
- Contribute to Publishing Team standards for creating accessible, inclusive content, and expand the Publishing Team’s expertise in publishing accessible online courses, classroom courses, printed documents, electronic documents, and audio and video files;
- Provide quotes on development costs, as needed;
- Advise on how choices made in the development process impact costs and schedules;
- Ensure that human resources (including staff and external vendors, e.g., makeup artists, biomedical illustrators, etc.) are sourced and scheduled, and that external vendors are monitored and paid;
- Monitor intellectual property issues, including copyright and permissions.
We are looking for:
- The minimum qualifications for this position are a University degree in the Humanities or a field related to Publishing plus 5 years of management experience in the field of publishing and/or content production, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must understand the stages of content production, publishing, and related processes, including instructional design, writing, copyediting, design, layout, reviewing and commenting, printing, distribution, inventory management, etc.; the roles and responsibilities involved; and industry standards for creating useful, accessible products.
- Must be familiar with Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office applications (including Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint).
Working conditions:
- The majority of the work is performed in an environment which is clean and comfortable in a home/remote environment.
- Extra time or overtime may be required to meet project deadlines.
- Some travel across Canada may be required for meeting with team members, clients, stakeholders, or off-site personnel/management.
