What is the opportunity?
As a Senior Manager within the Life and Health Claims department you will be responsible for leading a team that manages complex, long duration Individual disability claims in a multidisciplinary environment. You will also be responsible for managing, coaching, and tracking performance of a team of claims professionals to ensure the delivery of superior client service and contractual obligations.
What will you do?
- Serve as lead technician and subject matter expert on difficult and complex cases, and in reinforcing and creating new company practices
- Monitor workflow of team, ensuring all new claims, correspondence, complaints and appeals are responded to appropriately and within service standards
- Triage and monitor work/caseload within the unit to ensure that staff is assigned an appropriate caseload
- Responsible for staffing within the unit, including selection, retention, career development and performance management
- Perform claim audits within the team, identify opportunities and develop and implement action plans to address opportunities/findings concerning risk management and customer service
- Support the Director in developing and implementing business plans
- Lead projects and initiatives across Life and Health Claims
What will you need to succeed?
- Bilingual (French) a plus
- Post-secondary education plus a minimum of 10 years Disability claims (specifically ID and/or Group) experience, including at least 3 years handling highly complex claims
- Minimum of 1 industry designation
- Excellent oral and written communication skills plus strong negotiation, analytical and decision making skills
- Thorough knowledge of industry claims practices, procedures and philosophy, along with a detailed knowledge of medical terminology and contract provisions
- Demonstrated ability to deal with customers in a professional manner and with a high degree of customer service
- Proven leadership/supervisory/management experience.
