Purpose of Job:
Contributes to the effectiveness of the Enterprise Fraud Risk & Controls Team by leading the design and delivery of programs and initiatives intended to monitor evolving Fraud regulatory trends for their potential impact on processes, training, and business strategies. Maintains awareness of current and emerging industry issues to keep Fraud Risk Leadership apprised of emerging risks and trends. Provides insights into significant enforcement actions against other banks that may suggest revisions to Scotiabank’s Enterprise Fraud Risk Program in light of lessons learned.
Liable for all relevant Scotiabank subsidiaries on an annual basis and responding to external queries in this regard.
Job Responsibilities:
- Liable for continuously monitoring a wide variety of external sources for bulletins, guidance, media articles, etc. of relevance to Scotiabank’s Fraud Risk Program
- Prioritizes and examines material from intelligence sources to prepare timely summaries for Operational Risk Leadership
- Alerts Operational Risk Leadership to adverse media which could potentially involve Scotiabank globally (e.g., Panama Papers, FinCEN Files, etc.)
- Interacts with Vice President, Operational Risk Oversight with regularity to inform and assess impacts of emerging fraud risks
- Liable for assisting quarterly Board reporting on emerging fraud risks and trends
- Provides input to training materials for the Board of Directors and Executive Management in terms of key enforcement actions and fraud trends
- Through a broad understanding of Scotiabank’s requirements, standards and operations, provides professional insights and recommends changes to enterprise standards arising from regulatory intelligence
- Manages a repository of regulatory intelligence artifacts to assist subsequent research of key Fraud issues and topics
- Liable for managing the end-to-end process for all relevant Scotiabank subsidiaries on an annual basis and responding to external queries regarding Fraud
- Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge
- Figure out how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions
- Develops and maintains a framework for the New Initiative Risk Assessment (NIRA) from a Fraud Risk perspective in alignment with the Bank’s approved New Initiative Risk Management Policy (NIRM)
- Develops NIRA reporting processes and formats for senior management and executive
- Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to fraud, operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk

Job Requirements:
A university degree, preferably in a business, risk management, compliance or legal discipline with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, preferably covering a broad range of disciplines; including Fraud, operations and/or legal or equivalent. In addition,
- Command a high-level knowledge of a wide variety of domestic and international regulatory requirements and, in a constantly changing environment, be capable of digesting, interpreting and communicating often highly complex regulations and supervisory interpretive guidelines that fall within the scope of the position
- Knowledge of the financial services industry locally and globally
- Working knowledge of a global conglomerate bank
- Expert ability to quickly read, analyze, and synthesize legal and regulatory documents, identifying key issues and inter-related themes. Ability to relate issues and themes to key concerns of management
- Expert ability to inform clearly and effectively, both verbal and written, with all levels including senior and executive management
- Be able to listen, figure out and negotiate and obtain consensus from senior management when introducing new ideas and recommendations for action or change
- Must be able to speak Spanish
