Senior Manager, Communications, Business Financial Services

Job Description

Reporting to the Director, Corporate Communications, the Senior Manager, Communications, Business Financial Services (BFS) will develop and execute compelling internal and external communications strategies to support BFS business objectives, and enhance and protect RBC’s brand. This role is an 18-month full-time, contract position.

The successful candidate will manage communication initiatives to support diverse segment strategies, from Small Business to Mid- and Large Commercial Markets across industries such as Agriculture, Retail, Manufacturing, Real Estate and others. They will be responsible for developing, managing and executing on creative communications strategies leveraging their strong storytelling skills, curiosity and passion for the success of Canadian businesses.  This role will work with a diverse group of senior leaders, internal partners and external agencies to deliver highly impactful PR, social media, executive and employee engagement communications to drive awareness of the group’s business strategy and portfolio of market-leading solutions to support Canadian businesses as they start, manage and scale their business.

What will you do? 

  • Design and execute compelling internal and external media communications strategies to build awareness of the BFS strategy, priorities, milestones and portfolio of solutions. 

  • Manage external agency partners and collaborate with various internal stakeholders to develop and execute on integrated PR programs.

  • Provide day-to-day communications counsel to senior leaders and business partners as it relates to media messages, issues and reputational risks.

  • Build strong relationships with relevant media and influencers in the Canadian marketplace, as well as key internal stakeholders across the enterprise.

  • Lead content development around key communication priorities. This may include:  Town Hall content, executive speeches, op-ed articles, video and social media content, PR/media materials and employee communications.

  • Provide regular reporting/metrics to measure the effectiveness of communication efforts

What do you need to succeed?


Must-have  

  • Undergraduate degree/postgraduate certificate or equivalent in communications, public relations, journalism, English or related field

  • 7-10 years of communications experience

  • Extensive experience providing strategic communications advice to senior executives

  • Extensive internal and external communications experience, including media and issues management

  • A strategic storyteller and wordsmith who can speak and write in a clear, concise and compelling way

  • A creative mind with a passion and keen eye for identifying PR and other storytelling opportunities

  • Ability to prioritize, manage and execute effectively in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines

  • Highly collaborative team player with strong organization skills and attention to detail

Nice-to-have  

  • French bilingualism is a strong asset

  • Agency experience
