What is the opportunity?
Reporting to the Vice President within Client Data Services, the Senior Manager will play a key role in developing and executing upon the data management strategy and goals for RBC Capital Markets. As part of an evolving and maturing client data services function, the Client Data Services team is accountable for the implementation and maintenance of the Client reference data used in our operational processes, supporting our data governance and quality controls, as well as participating actively in business and regulatory initiatives that have a significant data impact. The incumbent will possess significant knowledge of, and experience with, counterparty reference data, data analysis tools and technologies. The ideal candidate brings expertise in project implementation and a high degree of comfort with technology and data related applications. This position requires the ability to collaborate extensively with colleagues from varying backgrounds including investments, operations and technology. Experience in relationship management, data operations, project management, and SDLC is required. Candidate must also have vast experience leading a successful team.

What will you do?
- Collaborate with different teams across RBC (Information Technology, Change Management, Operations, Regulatory Reporting ) in order to enhance the functioning and efficiency of Counterparty Data and identify emerging issues and trends to assist senior leader with decision making.
- Make strategic recommendations on data collection, integration and retention requirements incorporating business requirements and best practices.
- Develop analytical solutions by applying machine learning techniques and making recommendations based on an understanding of the business strategy and stakeholder needs and work with various data owners to discover and select available data from internal sources and external vendors to fulfill analytical needs.
- Summarize statistical findings and drawing conclusions; presenting actionable business recommendations in a simplified manner, applying expertise and thinking creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations and to find solutions to problems that can be complex and non-routine.
- Test the implementation of new requirements and working with QA team for successful releases and applying scripting/programming skills to assemble various types of source data (unstructured, semi-structured, and structured) into well prepared data sets with multiple levels of granularities.
- Perform supervisory duties including but not limited to interviewing, hiring, and training of employees and assist the team with developing and executing upon the data services strategy of RBC Capital Markets and the maintenance of client reference data through the use of technology.
- Support and manage data governance, data quality initiatives and business and regulatory initiatives
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have:
- Completion of an applicable university degree and/or relevant professional designation preferably in Computer Science
- A minimum of two years of experience in Python, R and or other programming languages.
- Advanced Excel Skills including the ability to; Analyze large data sets using pivot tables and pivot reporting, write and create advanced formulas using VLOOKUP, Arrays, Index and Match functions; debug and audit, build macros using VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) and structure and present data for reporting using conditional formatting, tables and charting.
- Intermediate SQL skills including the ability to: understand and use SQL keywords, data types, constraints, pivots, sub queries, logical and comparison operators, and advanced joins (inner, outer) and unions, understand and use update and insertion statements and syntax for altering and creating structures, generate complex data reports using GROUP BY and aggregate functions and understand SQL concepts of foreign keys, transactions, triggers, and stored procedures
- Excellent communication skills – written and oral
- Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills
