Job Summary:
The Senior Lead, Site Access, reporting to the Manager of Engineering, is responsible for leading the final stage of mine site access road and tunnel engineering and preparation of Issue for Construction (IFC) drawings. A solid background in resource road and/or tunnel design and development in remote, mountainous terrain is required.
The Senior Lead, Site Access will contribute as an integral member of the GCMC Project Team and work in close collaboration with the Project and Construction Management, Technical, Engineering, and Social, Environmental, and Regulatory affairs (SERA) disciplines to design integration and alignment, site access permitting, and preparations for resuming site access construction.

Key Responsibilities:
- Be a courageous safety leader, leading by example and fostering a proactive safety and sustainability culture based on the common values of health, safety, environment, and communities shared by the asset owners (Teck and Newmont). Support the implementation of and adherence to GCMC’s Health, Safety, Environmental, and Community (HSEC) policy. As an integral member of the Project Team, provide leadership in developing and ensuring a robust HSEC program and culture are embedded in all aspects of project engineering, development, and execution.
- As a member of a multi-disciplinary Project Team, collaborate and influence Project activities to ensure adherence to cost, schedule, and progress objectives, find opportunities and mitigate risks, and proactively develop, communicate, and execute strategic action plans to correct deviations and/or realize value.
- Work closely with the broader Galore Creek Project Team, Partner Subject Matter Experts, and engineering and permitting consultants, to support decision-making processes and action plan development for critical opportunity framing and strategic planning related to key site access risks and value impediments, permitting, construction planning, and continuing to build Partner support for resuming site access development.
- Lead the following key functions for GCMC, with support and guidance from the Manager of Engineering and broader GCMC Project Team:
- Development of site access engineering scope of work, schedule, and budget to achieve all project requirements related to design and end use criteria, value improvement, engineering design, execution schedule and capital cost estimate development, constructability, permitting support, and preparing for resumption of site access construction;
- Oversee and coordinate site access consultant design development and integration, to ensure seamless alignment (no scope gaps or overlap) with interfacing consultant groups, including but not limited to infrastructure areas, mine services, ore slurry pipeline, etc;
- Identification and realization of value improvement opportunities;
- Identification, management, and mitigation of key site access risks;
- Site access consultant schedule, cost, change management, and progress tracking and reporting, including analysis and proactive mitigation of variances;
- Identification, communication to the Manager of Engineering, and resolution of deficiencies and non-conformances to achieve required quality standards;
- Proactively identify emerging issues, and develop and implement mitigation plans;
- Completion of all stage specific engineering and integrated deliverable requirements;
- Point of contact for site access engineering inputs and deliverables required to support permitting and external communications; and
- Preparation of Lessons Learned to support continuous improvement across the project.
- Support Management and integration of other consultant groups and engineering designs, as may be requested by the Manager of Engineering.
- Build respectful working relationships within the Project Team, asset owners, consultants, and external stakeholders including various levels of government and the Tahltan Nation to contribute to the stability and functionality of GCMC’s reputation, management, and governance practices.

Qualifications:
- Greater than 10 years of solid, progressive experience in one or a combination of Owner’s team environment, construction company, or engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) company.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), Registered Professional Forester (RPF), or other related association accreditation with a strong background in road design, civil earthworks, and/or geotechnical.
- Versatile professional, with direct engineering experience or exposure to:
- Access road and engineered stream crossings, in steep mountainous terrain;
- Tunnel development;
- Large diameter pipeline installations; and
- Snow avalanche mitigations.
- Large resource road or highway project (+$100M) experience is preferred.
- Experience working in remote and steep mountainous terrain is preferred, with direct experience working in NW British Columbia or Yukon considered a strong asset.
- High degree of comfort managing complex engineering challenges or decision-making in a collaboration manner with other team members, subject matter experts (SMEs), and external service providers.
- Able to build relationships across a large multidisciplinary team.
- Results oriented, with proven ability to work under pressure, proactively address issues and prioritize tasks to achieve tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong interpersonal skills and personal effectiveness; proven ability to influence and cultivate team alignment and buy in.
