What You Will Do
You will be responsible for performing detailed analyses and reviews of designs produced by others to ensure that they meet TTC and industry design standards and maintainability requirements in a cost effective manner. You will liaise with the Department's structural maintenance function in order to ensure maintenance issues are accounted for and incorporated as these designs are reviewed at various progress milestones. The work will also include the responsibility for design functions of a complex nature associated with the maintenance and rehabilitation of the Commission's existing subway structures and providing structural expertise. This will include the development of designs, specifications, technical reports, standards and assistance with all aspects of the budgeting and approval process.
This involves:
- Managing the design, procurement and construction aspects of major maintenance projects for the rehabilitation of subway structures.
- Reviewing/monitoring major rehabilitation of existing structures.
- Providing design review expertise for development proposals and the construction of new facilities.
- Providing technical support for structure maintenance activities including assessments, field inspections and development of maintenance standards etc.
- Reviewing and approving Design Standard changes initiated by Engineering & Construction Branch, RTEP etc.
- Maintaining liaison with other TTC departments and external agencies, authorities and consultants regarding areas of responsibility.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?
- You are in good standing and registered as a professional Engineer with the Professional Engineers of Ontario
- Your educational background in Civil or Structural Engineering is integral and will contribute to the success in this role.
- Your application demonstrates in-depth knowledge of civil/structural engineering principles, methods and practices as they relate to the structural design, maintenance and rehabilitation of bridge and underground structures.
- You must have a strong knowledge of applicable regulatory guidelines including the Ontario Structure Inspection Manual and National Bridge Design Standards.
- Must possess sound judgement, well developed analytical, problem solving, verbal communication and technical report writing skills.
- Must have the ability to coordinate the efforts of others in order to accomplish objectives.
- Ability to prepare structural designs, specifications and cost estimates.
- Must be familiar with budgeting procedures/practices.
- Requires a good knowledge of computers and computerized applications related to the work.
