Why this role is important?
Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President, Pharmacy, the incumbent provides direction, support and guidance to drive operational effectiveness in the Pharmacy Businesses. This position will continue to play a significant role to operationalize the key strategies for the Pharmacy initiatives and Business Units as well as provide operational support on key projects.
Primary Responsibilities. The Director, Projects, Planning and Operations will support the development and implementation of Pharmacy strategic and operating plans as needed with guidance and input from the various business leads.
Responsibilities
Support Executive Vice President Pharmacy
- Support the management of the interface among the various businesses and initiatives and platform functions (HR, IT and Finance) to ensure efforts are aligned to optimize the business
- Proactively identify and implement best practices
- Support compliance by ensuring awareness and training across all units
- Ensure consistency in overarching processes and systems
- Provide key inputs to internal and external communications
- Manage key projects (will change over time)
- Support employee engagement plans across all businesses
- Partner with EVP in Pharmacy and Health Care Business as needed to ensure alignment
- Working closely with VPs and Finance partner, oversee management of opex and capex and reporting monthly
- Actively manage the Common Year Plan (CYP), Multi Year Plan (MYP) and other projects on behalf of Pharmacy including such projects as Big Think etc.
Co-ordinate Projects, Presentations and Reports
- Support the development of Pharmacy strategic and operating plans as needed with guidance and input from all businesses
- Ensure flawless implementation of planned activities and programs
- Management of special projects, eg communications related to key initiatives, clinic openings, new services, new business launches
- Ensures ongoing alignment with pharmacy
- Preparation of senior level reports and presentations eg Board, Management Committee, IMC, capital committee, Health Advisory Board, Health Forum, MBR etc.
- Play a critical role in specific projects eg due diligence work, turnarounds, organizational effectiveness and improvements by providing business insights and environmental updates
- Identify ways to increase operational effectiveness of working teams
- Lead execution of key team meetings and offsites, capturing action items and ensuring prompt follow-up
- Support business unit leads on specific projects where there is cross over or synergy opportunities across business units and or with SDM/LCL
- Manage complex projects on behalf of EVP and assist with co-ordination with SDM as needed
- Identify and implement continuous improvement programs that will result in operational efficiencies and realized annual cost savings. Ensures the implementation of operational best practices
- Monitors, develops and implements operational standards to ensure policies, procedures and practices respond to changing conditions in the marketplace and improve efficiency and competency
Skills, Experience & Education
This position requires a superior level of initiative and judgment in order to organize and prioritize tasks, workload and projects. Courtesy, tact and diplomacy are required in dealing with colleagues in every day working relationships.
- Broad knowledge of Pharmacy businesses and environment
- Demonstrated track record of high performance and producing outstanding results
- Strong project management and problem-solving skills
- Strong interpersonal skills are required as well as excellent verbal communication and presentation skills
- Demonstrated experience managing complexity and managing projects in a highly matrixed organization
- Strong organizational skills, very flexible and capable of juggling multiple demands and stakeholders
- Understanding of effective marketing strategies, marketing tools and research methods
- Ability to develop partnerships through cross-functional collaboration and work in fast paced growth environment.
- Requires extensive knowledge and skill in multiple disciplines to be able to integrate them effectively and a capacity to understand and interpret conflicting goals and needs of diverse groups.
- Develops new techniques and innovative approaches to further continuous improvements.
- Decisions are highly complex in nature involving multiple elements, factors and interests to develop new models and processes to meet future needs within a framework of corporate policy, general direction, multiple needs and legislated compliance.
- Ability to collaborate with internal stakeholders and to work across multiple lines of business
- Analytics skills an asset
Experience / Education
- Post secondary education equivalent to a university degree in business, marketing, economics or related degree
- 5 plus years in a Sr. Strategic business or marketing role and/or operational leadership experience in Healthcare, pharmaceutical and /or retail pharmacy
- Post-secondary education in Business or Pharmacy is preferred. MBA is an asset.
