Our clients represent Risk, Finance, HR, CAO, Audit, Legal, Compliance, Financial Crime, Capital Markets, Personal and Commercial Banking and Wealth Management. We also lead the development of digital tools and platforms to enhance collaboration.
Working in the Global Functions Technology (GFT) Risk IT team as a Senior Database Administrator to create and maintain Vertica database & processing environments for application testing, pre-production verification, and production operations. You will be a key player in providing technical support for database processing, data access, performance tuning, and database recovery. You will perform analysis required to resolve complex technical issues/problems.
What will you do?
Special Conditions - Rotational after-hours & weekend support is required; Support personnel are required to carry cell phone when on call.
Provide Vertica DBA technical support including database processing, performance tuning and database recovery for development and production environments including required level of 7X24 on call support.
Create and maintain Vertica database & processing environments for application testing, pre-production verification, and production operation.
Makes recommendations on process improvements and enhances system and support documentation.
Lead application development and support teams in optimal use of Vertica database technology through creation and communication of standards and walkthrough of critical application components.
Ensure that databases are optimally designed, so that applications meet their defined SLA's, reuse of existing database structures is maximized and operational costs are minimized.
Ensure that all database and environmental changes are appropriately tested and implemented in such a manner that there is no impact to RBC systems and clients
Work on IT risk deliverables: participate in DR exercise, DR planning and design; interacting with various auditors and ensure applications in our portfolio function according to published RBC IT Risk Standards.
What do you need to succeed?
Must have:
Specialized technical knowledge of Vertica database technologies is required, including database security, performance tuning and database recovery.
High level of proven competence with data manipulation languages, data definition languages, physical database design, and application performance analysis & tuning.
UNIX experience is required. Shell scripting: the ability to read, understand, modify, and write non-trivial UNIX shell scripts is preferred.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to learn and absorb new concepts quickly, apply new knowledge as appropriate and transfer knowledge to others. Good coaching/mentoring skills.
Sound understanding of database, operating system and file system security practices on the UNIX and Windows platforms is required.
Nice-to-have:
Knowledge of how to create and modify job schedules using job scheduling software would be an asset, as most of the applications we support are run using advanced job scheduling software.
Ideal candidate would possess some business knowledge in Capital Markets arena as it is often essential to be able to express technical issues in business terms, and vice-versa.
Being familiar with incident management and ITIL process workflows will make you a better candidate for this position.
