Role Summary

The DSA team is responsible for:
Being the analytics translators to identify and deliver high-impact data science use cases
Building dashboards and reports to monitor progress and help extract valuable insights from vast amounts of data
Partnering with other Analytics/IT groups to leverage expertise of Data Engineers/Developers to explore and solve complex business problems
Supporting various teams within Sun Life Health to leverage best practices associated with data management and develop processes that support data driven decision making
The Senior Data Scientist’s primary focus is to collaborate closely with the health product and strategy team to launch and test new ideas and solutions to generate innovation within Sun Life’s Health Ecosystem, and to identify data science use cases, create the project execution plan and to drive the project through its life cycle. As part of this life cycle, you will create/maintain data models, provide expertise in data interpretation to support strategic decision making, and leverage analytical skills to highlight trends and insights from data. You will also be responsible for feasibility study of use cases for production at scale and automation.
What Will You Do?
Identify potential data science/machine learning opportunities, create and execute end-to-end plan for implementation and delivery
Work closely with health product and strategy team to define use case and scope
Identify appropriate data sources relevant to the modeling application
Create data pipeline for extracting the data into AWS S3
Perform data preprocessing to ensure data quality
Apply feature engineering principles to create feature space
Create labels if known and appropriate to the problem at hand
Apply machine learning models to identify model with best performance
Perform cross validation and hyper parameter tuning to optimize model performance
Prepare model for deployment
Monitor deployed model for data and model drift
Participate in the technical design, development, and testing of models/analysis and in the creation of user documentation and processes
Create and maintain ETL processes and automated dashboards that can be leveraged to find insights
Develop and present reporting solutions to key stakeholders and partners
Learn about business processes to analyze, interpret, and advise managers on analytical findings
Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure effective use of reporting and analysis, and provide support if needed
Understand and incorporate technology best practices with a primary focus on Tableau and Python
Diligently perform quality assurance and risk assessment guidelines to minimize operational, reputation, and legal risk
What Do You Need To Succeed?
Coding experience preferably in Python (minimum 3 years)
Experience with developing machine learning, statistical and optimization models and creating/maintaining visualizations and dashboards in Tableau (minimum 2 years)
Experience in healthcare and familiarity with health data (1 year)
Familiar with data science project life cycle
Technical mindset with a degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or other data science related fields, and 3-5 years of relevant experience. A graduate degree would be an asset, a combination of education and work experience will also be considered.
Strong problem solving and analytical skills
Demonstrated ability to produce meaningful results from data
Proven experience consolidating and analyzing data sources
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience in relaying complex concepts to non-technical users
Comfortable learning new applications quickly with minimal direction
Proven ability to work collaboratively within a cross functional team environment
Ability to succeed in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, and quickly find alternative solutions to business and data challenges
Attention to detail and in-depth planning, organizational and time management skills
Experience working with relational databases and creating data models with efficient design
Experience with AWS SageMaker would be an asset.
Unique Requirements
The candidate selected for this role is required to attain Canadian Reliability Security Clearance (administered by submitting fingerprints to the RCMP, who then conduct min. 5 year history checks)

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.
