Your responsibilities will include:
- Understanding client needs and requirements
- Design the future state data platforms and the relevant components (data pipelines, data warehouses, data marts, data hubs, databases, operational data stores, data lakes, data repositories, etc.)
- Leverage modern tools in setting up data infrastructure and services (i.e. Azure, AWS, GCP, Snowflake, Databricks, Informatica, Talend)
- Advocate development best practices (i.e. CICD, Agile, DevOps, etc.)
- Take leadership and ownership of deliverables from the Data team
- Manage direct communications with client technical leaders and enterprise architects
- Work closely with Program Management to understand the business priorities, program mandates, budgets, evaluation metrics, and ensure delivery excellence from the Data team
Must be located in Calgary or willing to relocate to Calgary
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- At least 5 years of experience in developing data ingestion, data processing and analytical pipelines for big data, relational databases, NoSQL and data warehouse solutions
- Extensive experience providing practical direction within the Azure Native services, and big data solution such as Hadoop, Spark and Databricks
- Hands-on experience implementing data migration and data processing using Azure services: ADLS, Azure Data Factory, Azure Functions, Synapse/DW, Azure SQL DB, Azure Stream Analytics, Azure Analysis Service, HDInsight, Databricks, Azure Data Catalog, etc.
- Hands-on experience in ETL frameworks as well as Big Data technologies such as Powershell, C#, Python, SQL, ADLS/Blob, Spark/SparkSQL, Databricks, Hive and streaming technologies such as Kafka, EventHub, etc.
- Well versed in DevOps and CI/CD deployments
- Cloud migration methodologies and processes including tools like Azure Data Factory, Data Migration Service, SSIS, etc.
- Hands-on RDBMS experience such as SQL Server, Oracle or DB2
- Experience in using Big Data File Formats and compression techniques such as Parquet, JSON, CSV, AVRO, ORC,etc.
- Experience working with Developer tools such as Azure DevOps, Visual Studio Team Server, Github, Bitbucket, etc.
- Experience with private and public cloud architectures, pros/cons, and migration considerations.
- Bachelors or higher degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.

- Experience in the energy & mining industry
- Experience in the oil & gas industry
- Azure Data Engineer Certification (DP-200/DP-201)
- Azure DevOps Engineer Certification (AZ-400)
- Azure Developer Certification (AZ-204)
- DevOps on an Azure platform
- Familiarity with the technology stack available in the industry for metadata management: Data Governance, Data Quality, MDM, Lineage, Data Catalog etc.
