Job Description:

Role Summary

Leveraging DE principles and values, the Finance Accelerator’s purpose is to modernize Finance through process redesign and automation, establishing best practices, developing common tool platforms on an enterprise scale, and applying data and analytics to inform, influence and tackle business problems.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be responsible to assemble various streams of data and turning it into organized data products that fuel into analytical tools. Working with a diverse team of product owners, delivery teams and business partners professionals, the Senior Data Engineer will lead the entire lifecycle of data – from ETL to mining insights from the data, to making data accessible to build analytics services and self-service solutions to our stakeholders

Given this mandate, this role requires an experienced data engineer (5+ years) with deep experience in building data ETL process, governing data products, and a solid understanding of data needs of data analysts. The candidate must have experience in:

Data Management – Design, development, integration

Data Discovery – scoping new data sources, understanding and leveraging data sources

Data Governance – Manage data catalogue, interpret metadata

Communication and liaison between business, data analysts and IT

This role will report to the Director, Data Analytics & Insights

What will you do?

  • Design, development and implementation of end-to-end complex ETL solutions from data modelling phase to automated workflows system using Informatica Powercenter

  • Convert complex business and technical rules into logic for data flows that are implemented in ETL processes

  • Ensure automated processes and internal data repository preserves data integrity and high data quality by managing alignment of source data platform.

  • Implement and maintain clear data governance, data structures, naming conventions and other guiding principles to increase consistency in data across Business Groups

  • Work with team members to create useful reports and dashboards that provide insight, improve/automate processes, or otherwise add value to the team.

  • Implement technical solutions that are scalable, aligned with the enterprise architecture and can adapt to changes in business

  • Develop and manage effective working relationships with other departments, groups or personnel with whom work must be coordinated.

What do you need to succeed?

  • 5+  Years of hands-on experience in ETL using tools such as Informatica PowerCenter, and Power Designer for Data modelling

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience with Data visualization tool, developing and designing dashboards, preferably Tableau

  • 4+ years experience or deep knowledge of SQL Server that includes a thorough understanding of SQL internals, system tables, stored procedures, functions, triggers, and SQL tuning

  • BSc/M.S. in a statistical, mathematical, or technical field (ie Engineering, computer science) or equivalent experience

  • Proven ability to lead and drive projects and assignments to completion

  • Experience embedding continuous improvement processes within the team to augment the speed and quality of analysis delivery

  • Ability to work in a global multi-site environment and working in a matrix environment, onshore/offshore IT mode

  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail and accuracy

Unique Requirements

  • The candidate selected for this role is required to attain Canadian Reliability Security Clearance (administered by submitting fingerprints to the RCMP, who then conduct min. 5 year history checks)

What will be nice to have?

  • Experience with production implementation change management processes

  • Experience with project management and software development life cycle/SDLC; Agile and Lean  

  • Excellent documentation skills including technical writing, Visio, PowerPoint, flowcharting

  • Experience/Knowledge in Service Request tool such JIRA & Service Now

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
