Your Opportunity

Our Community Development Team working out of our Markham and Mississauga offices is looking for a full-time employee to lead our Contract Administration Team as well as act as Senior Contract Administrator managing a number of active projects throughout the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). As a Senior Contract Administrator, you will work as part of an integrated design and construction team delivering complex projects in the GTA and surrounding areas.

Your Key Responsibilities

As the leader of the Contract Administration Team you will;

  • Prepare fee proposals, budgets, and assess project staffing needs to support contract administration and field inspections services for construction assignments.
  • Maintain/create/update master contract document templates to ensure all works comply with latest Industry specifications and standards.
  • Maintain detailed workload schedule and staff assignments.
  • Provide senior leadership, mentoring and training of staff including performance evaluations and ongoing goal setting discussions with team and direct reports.
  • Oversee tendering processes, on behalf of clients, including initial contract preparation, contractor invitation, bid review, contractor selection and ongoing contractor coordination throughout construction period through final assumption/acceptance.
  • In collaboration with Community Development – Senior Leadership Team, you will build relationships with other Stantec practices areas and sectors to grow our business and team.
  • Establish and further our reputation in appropriate Construction Industry associations within the GTA. Ensure our visibility in these associations through attendance at functions and participation on committees.

As Senior Contract Administrator you will;

  • Prepare and/or participate in review of construction documents for tendering of projects.
  • Prepare cost estimates of land development construction works.
  • Act as Stantec’s (prime consultant) representative during the construction phase of projects to both contractor and owner.
  • Interpret contracts and ensure compliance with contract terms.
  • Run construction meetings and providing meeting summary’s.
  • Monitoring and verifying contract progress.
  • Preparing and processing:

+ Requests for information

+ Change management documents

+ Contract amendments

+ Evaluating contractors' submissions for changes and claims

  • Review of monthly progress draws and issue certificate of payment to client.
  • Negotiating acceptable resolutions to contract changes and claims, and processing for client approval.
  • Provide senior oversight reviews during construction and coordination of sub consultants such as geotechnical engineers, utility consultants, landscape architects, etc, to ensure their commercial deliverables meet project requirements.
  • Processing contract close-outs with the client and approval agencies.
  • Preparing various reports and other correspondence relating to areas of responsibility. Your Capabilities and Credentials Ability to work independently or cooperatively with others on large complex projects A thorough knowledge of construction and contracting principles, methods, procedures, and practices including contract administration relating to changes, claims and delays A comprehensive knowledge of relevant engineering, pertinent legislation, standards, and scheduling practices/methods Sound judgment, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities Effective interpersonal, presentation, verbal, and written communication skills Demonstrated organizational, administrative, and decision-making skills required to effectively handle changing priorities and project deadlines Ability to co-ordinate the efforts of others to accomplish objectives Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity and innovation. A good working knowledge of personal computers and applications relevant to the work (word processing, excel spreadsheets, mobile apps) You have ability to interpret and critique construction drawings and specifications along with an extensive knowledge in the field of inspection and contract administration of municipal engineering works, with experience working on Land Development projects including excellent comprising earthworks, sewer, watermain and road construction materials, methods and processes. You are also self-motivated individual possessing strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, and are able to prioritize multiple tasks. Education and Experience Graduate of an Engineering (with P. Eng) or College (with C.E.T.) with 10-15 years or more of proven experience managing land development related contract administration. Certified Construction Contract Administrator (CCCA) and Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control (CISEC) would be an asset. Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.   • Set ups and maintain the contract in coordination with Project Controls.
  • Provides guidance on financial and contractual matters pertaining to contracts.
  • Liaise with municipalities and design team to meet overall project objectives and facilitate certification of constructed works and return of securities.

Qualifications

  • A thorough knowledge of construction and contracting principles, methods, procedures, and practices including contract administration relating to changes, claims and delays.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of relevant engineering, pertinent legislation, standards, and scheduling practices/methods.
  • Sound judgment, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective interpersonal, presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational, administrative, and decision-making skills required to effectively handle changing priorities and project deadlines.
