Purpose:
The Sr. Analyst, Volcker and Regulatory Programs contributes to the overall success of Global Operations by executing support and oversight to Local Sustainment Groups, ensuring full compliance, alignment, and consistency across the Bank and International Banking.
The Sr. Analyst, Volcker and Regulatory Programs also serves as the primary point of contact between Local Country Teams and Compliance and Enterprise Teams while driving and facilitating continuous improvement.
Is this role right for you? In this role you will:
- Maintains awareness of local and global regulatory compliance requirements (e.g., Volcker Rule, etc.), emerging issues and trends, as well as keeping all stakeholders informed.
- Acts as liaison between the Enterprise and International Banking Groups and promotes knowledge of applicable regulatory standards, initial risks and best industry practices in all Countries/Business Units.
- Facilitates and follows up on the implementation of regulatory compliance programs/controls, procedures, and standards in collaboration with the Local Sustainment Groups, Internal Control, 2nd Line, and Business Functions as needed. Ensures alignment of regulatory operations with company-wide policies.
- Reports gaps, follows up on the corresponding remediation action plan escalated by Local Operations Teams and provides advice and counsel.
- Coordinates and reports the progress of periodic activities and reviews of existing policies and procedures to ensure accuracy, effectiveness and efficiency. Ensures that the periodic reports are executed adequately within the regulatory deadlines.
- Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We’d love to work with you if you have:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in financial services industry, managing large complex projects with significant Retail and non-Retail Banking, Capital Markets, Regulatory and operational components.
- Good knowledge of banking, operational risk, regulatory risk, compliance and regulatory requirements and internal control principles as well as good understanding of products, transactions, trading and operations in Capital Markets, Treasury, and Corporate and Commercial Banking
- Experience dealing with control functions such as risk management, taxation, audit, compliance, operations, or related areas.
- Ability to gain confidence and cooperation of business units and 2nd line functions while still retaining the independence and willingness to point out weaknesses.
- Good communication and presentation skills are essential to explain regulations and internal policy and procedure.
- Good communication skills in English. Spanish fluency is a plus.
- Maintains awareness of and actively engages in activities across all business lines. Understands regulatory perspective on risk.
