Job Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Director, Enterprise Tax, the primary responsibility of the Senior Analyst, Enterprise Tax is to ensure HOOPP and its subsidiaries meet all tax compliance obligations including Canadian, and U.S. income taxes, indirect taxes, and withholding taxes. This position will work closely with HOOPP’s Investment Operations, Accounting Departments, and external tax advisors.
What you will do:
Assist the Associate Director, Enterprise Tax with managing HOOPP’s U.S. tax compliance and reporting responsibilities, including income tax and withholding tax, by working closely with external tax service providers.
Assist in the preparation of Canadian income tax returns and related tax filings and forms.
Coordinate the preparation of U.S. income tax returns by liaising with internal stakeholders and external portfolio companies to collect and provide tax information to external tax service providers.
Review U.S. tax returns and supporting working papers prepared by external tax service providers for accuracy and completeness.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders and manage tax requests (e.g. FATCA, CRS, W8, consent form, and certificate of residency).
Manage the collection process for U.S. K-1 tax slips and relevant tax forms. Collect the K-1 package and maintain a K-1 control listing.
Manage all U.S. tax authority’s correspondences such as tax assessment notices. Proactively interact with tax authorities and external tax advisors to resolve tax compliance issues.
Interact with internal stakeholders to manage the tax payment and tax refund processes.
Develop and maintain tax planning schedule and process documentation.
Stay abreast of changes in tax laws and ensure appropriate integration into tax filings and positions.
Manage external tax advisors to ensure deliverables are met and are in line with HOOPP’s expectations.
Assist in the preparation of various tax reports.
Identify tax risks and opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the tax compliance process and provide the recommendations to Associate Director and Tax team.
Assist in projects as needed.
What you bring:
University degree in business, commerce, or finance
Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA)
Completed level I & II of the CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Course
Minimum of 5 years of relevant tax experience
Investment industry experience is an asset
Strong organizational and time management skills
Strong analytical skills and a detail-oriented approach to work
Excellent written and verbal communications skills
Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of products
