General Accountability
Reporting to the Senior Safety Specialist – SH&E Policy & Strategy, the Safety Research and Performance Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining corporate safety and environmental data monitoring and reporting programs and processes. The incumbent develops/co-ordinates reliable corporate systems for the collection of safety and environmental performance statistics (Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)) including occupational injuries, customer injuries, TTC vehicle collisions, spills, regulatory orders/charges, and other relevant data; develops statistical reports for summarizing, monitoring and evaluating safety and environmental KPIs and manipulates safety and environmental performance data using new and established statistical methods; identifies safety and environmental trends and through the analysis of data and use of external research and benchmarking as applicable, provides information to support opportunities for improvement to the work processes, etc. Prepares and ensures the accuracy and timely production of various corporate/local level monthly, quarterly and annual reports as well as ad-hoc reports. Carries out, co-ordinates and/or participates in special projects and safety initiatives as directed.
Key Job Functions
• Develop/co-ordinate reliable corporate systems for the collection and management of safety and environmental performance statistics (KPIs).
• Develop statistical reports for summarizing, monitoring and evaluating safety and environmental KPIs and manipulate safety and environmental performance data using new and established statistical methods.
• Prepare and ensure the accuracy and timely production of various corporate/local level reports.
• Research internal/external benchmarking.
• Provide direction to staff engaged in data input activities, regarding the interpretation and coding of occupational injury and other SH&E incident data for reports.
• Keep abreast of technological changes relative to statistical database management
• Assist to review and assess corporate/local level safety and environmental plans and programs through statistical analyses of relevant data.
• Carry out, co-ordinate and/or participate in special projects and safety and environmental initiatives as directed.
• Assume the authority and responsibility of Senior Safety Specialist – SH&E Policy & Strategy, as required.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
University degree in a relevant discipline (statistics, social sciences, mathematics, business administration), or a combination of education, training, and experience deemed to be equivalent, combined with several years of related work experience.
Additional Requirements
• Knowledge of SH&E management systems (i.e. ISO 9001 and 14001 series, OHSAS 18001)
• Comprehensive knowledge/experience in research methods and statistical techniques applicable to measuring and evaluating safety and environmental performance, and knowledge/experience in the use of statistical software (e.g. Minitab)
• Sound judgement; strong research and analytical skills; well-developed organizational, interpersonal, verbal communication, presentation (visual and text layout), and report writing skills.
• Computer literate, with proficiency in the use of databases and report writer facilities (such as Focus, Crystal Reports, MicroStrategy Reports) as well as MS Office software (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint).
• Demonstrated ability to make and articulate meaningful recommendations to various audiences based on interpretation of quantitative data analysis and research.
• Aptitude for being detail-oriented and accurate together with possession of a general knowledge of quality control practices.
• Ability to co-ordinate the activities of others to accomplish outlined objectives.
• Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
