Are you passionate about contributing to the reliability and performance of critical equipment across our Base Plant operating site? We’re looking for a talented Rotating Equipment Advisor/Engineer to join our team—someone who thrives on solving complex technical challenges and transforming innovative ideas into practical, cost‑effective solutions.

Minimum Requirements: 

  • 10 years of hands-on engineering experience with machinery or material handling systems

  • Experience in reliability management tools such as failure mode effect and analysis (FMEA), reliability centered maintenance (RCM), and root cause failure analysis (RCFA)

  • A Red Seal Millwright Journeyperson certification or a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and SAP

  • Knowledge and expertise in centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, centrifugal and PD pumps, turbines and T&T valves, crushers, conveyors, sizers, and mechanical seals API 682 and API seal piping plans

  • Machinery diagnostics experience in System 1 and Prognost

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings such as PFD’s, P&ID’s, GA’s, piping isometrics, etc. is mandatory

  • A valid driver's licence

Responsibilities: 

  • Manage the asset care of rotating equipment at Baseplant

  • Provide technical expertise and leadership to troubleshoot and investigate complex reliability issues with rotating equipment and provide operations and maintenance teams with necessary direction for repairs

  • Improve existing asset strategies by working closely with maintenance, planners, and operations on reliability issues and failure trends, while refining condition monitoring programs

  • Use risk review approaches, hazard and operability studies, management of change process to maintain and improve area safety and reliability performance indicators

  • Lead the engineering design of minor plant and equipment modifications. Develop, implement, and oversee improvements to continuously improve rotating equipment reliability and availability

  • Use technical knowledge and project management skills to prepare work scopes and coordinate complex repairs such as equipment overhauls and maintenance projects

 Location and other Key Details: 

  • This position is located at Suncor Base plant location in Fort McMurray, Alberta

  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs

  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory. Relocation support will be provided

  • Our engineering roles follow internal compensation guidelines, and the pay band will generally be based on years of experience and scope of work
