Your Opportunity

Our Thunder Bay office is accepting applications for the position of Road Construction Senior Inspector. This position will report to the Project Manager of Transportation and the on-site Contract Administrator.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Perform on-site inspection throughout NW Ontario of Contractor operations related to the construction works for a variety of disciplines including: utility relocation, grade construction, drainage features, placement of granulars, environmental controls, structures, asphalt placement and electrical services;
  • Superve Junior Inspectors on site.
  • Read and apply all contract drawings,tender documents and Ontario Provincial Standards (OPS) applicable to the site operations.
  • Monitor the progress of construction project operations and Contractor’s scheduled Work.
  • Review, calculate and monitor progress payments and provide input on change orders.
  • Assist Contract Administrator with liaison between clients, contractors and municipal officials on-site.
  • Prepare and submit Daily Inspector Diaries to Contract Administrator and include payment statements.
  • Inspect Contractor’s traffic control measures in accordance to OTM Book 7 requirements and provide daily comments on effectiveness.
  • Provide all Health and Safety concern comments in the Daily Inspector Diary as well as notifying the contractor and Contract Administrator immediately.
  • Provide contract "As Recorded" information, to be delivered to the client at the conclusion of each project.
  • Experience with MTO Northwest Region contracts would be considered an assett.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Graduate of a Civil Engineering Technology or Construction Engineering Technology program.
  • RCSI certification with OACETT, or EIT membership with PEO
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Senior Inspector position on a road or bridge construction project.
  • Experience with MTO Northwest Region and City of Thunder Bay construction projects is an asset.
  • A working knowledge of road and bridge construction with particular emphasis on contractor operations, documentation control and applying specifications to contract drawings.
  • Working knowledge of the Ontario Provincial Standards.
  • Strong inspection experience in bridge structures involving rehabilitations and replacements.
  • Knowledge of Autocad (version 14 or higher) and Microsoft Office software is essential.
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications.
  • Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle.
